Another good check-up: that takes a little edge off a flare

Monday, April 25, 2011

Frankly, I have felt for some time that the cancer was/is gone. And today's check-up was another good one, with my bloodwork showing the remaining kidney still is functioning as well as do the two kidneys of the 'average' person.

Am in flare. Why? Because I cooked two vegetable side dishes for yesterday's Easter dinner at my son's house. Had trouble just driving home because it hit suddenly during dinner and just got worse and worse. Luckily, it's a short drive - only 2 miles.

Was up all night with pain, and then at about 1am the headache started. Ebbed slightly now and then during the day, but I've not had a pain-free minute for over 24-hours.

Sometimes riding out a flare is hard; the ones with headaches are hardest because reading or using the computer hurt. Typing -like now- is okish because I am in the dark with eyes closed. But reading? Nope. What is nice is that I may wake up tomorrow morning feeling absolutely fine. But since it's raining and we're expecting t-storms tomorrow... well. One day at a time.

Ok... sure I feel crumby, but it's just a passing thing that comes and goes; part of life that is annoying in the immediate but doesn't affect the future. And while I had to drag myself to the oncology office for that appointment today, just hearing 'still lookin' good!' sure took the edge off a bad day.

And that's nice.
