A funny thing about beets
Sunday, January 01, 2012
So I learned a funny thing about beets this week, and I'm passing it on to you, free of charge.
Hypothetically, you were to eat some beets and then notice a rosy tint to your urine, you might not, say, need to head back to your desk barely able to contain your hysteria at what you will discover when you check WebMD and find out exactly which rare kidney condition you're dying from.
You might not need to berate yourself about why the heck you never followed up about writing a will. You probably don't need to wander around the office on your way back to your desk, looking noble and brave and tearful like a heroine in a Lifetime movie. You might not need to practice looking wistful and sad as you kiss your fingertips and gently touch your son's picture.
If you do, you see, you might feel a little silly when you google "pink tint to urine" and find out that the most likely culprit is not going to require dialysis but rather a deeper understanding of the world of root vegetables.
Because beets, apparently, turn your pee pink.
Fun fact, right? My gift to you.
