Back in the pool!

Monday, July 30, 2012

Returning to pool therapy today after the two-month lapse while my ankle healed... was soooooo NICE!!!

The pool is kept at 96 degrees (the room is air-conditioned in the summer so the heat isn't overwhelming as some people might suspect) and has a stairway leading into it (no ladders). Today as always I stepped farther down with each step into the pool, just feeling thw wonderful joy I always get as my Aquarian soul dips into heaven. Oh, yes: I do love my pool time!

When a child and teen, I used to swim laps daily every summer; did President Kennedy's 50-mile swim TWICE in one summer... even though we weren't home for six weeks of the summer. And all recorded swims were done at the pool where I lived. Yes, my parents used to say I was pretty much a fish. Frankly, I think it's just natural since I'm an Aquarian. (Right?) Now, however, water below 90 degrees puts my muscles into spasm - which triggers fibromyalgia flares ...etc on the details. Laps are impossible; but now I have a whole slew of great exercises I can do in the pool! The therapist leaves a radio tuned into an oldies station that has very little talking, so I select exercises according to which ones go with the currently playing music. They schedule me for a time when most patients don't want to get pool therapy: between 11 am and 1pm start times. Other folks prefer early morning or late afternoon, which means... the...pool...is... MINE... with little interference!! Oh yuh, I love it!

Getting into that water today just felt so incredible. I came home, changed into my muumuu and have been relaxing the past 1.5 hours because I of course (!) overdid things and came home deliciously exhausted.

When you become used to an exercise as part of your lifestyle and for some reason can't do it for a while, returning to your schedule is for you what it was for me today: pure heaven!!

emoticon So happy for you that you can have the pool to
yourself mostly. In a few weeks our weather will warm up and
I am going to work less hours so that I can go to the heated pool
at the gym for water aerobics. I need to get moving. Thanks for
the motivation Carol. emoticon emoticon emoticon
