A lot has happened since I last blogged about Toby. He did have surgery again April 24 and the vet removed what he could of the mass on Toby's leg and side. Because the surgery was late in the day, we did not pick him up until Thursday morning. He was still a kinda groggy and not very stable on his paws so Ashley and I had to "help" him out of the car and onto the back porch. Toby stayed there all day and just laid there, enjoying the beautiful weather. About 6:30 p.m. we toted him into the house (he only weighed 93.8 lbs) and that was not easy. About 9 that night I called the vet again and we ended up meeting him at the clinic as he was not able to stand still. He was hooked up to IV and given some shots, hoping it would help him and we left him after midnight. I called about 9 a.m. 4/26 and was told that Toby had died. Toby turned 11 April 4. Ashley and I took it hard, so not a good weekend mentally for us but I had commitments that I had to keep.
We had decided when we found out that Toby had cancer that we would have him cremated and we did do this. Now remember he died last Friday and Wednesday, they called and Toby was ready to be picked up in a beautiful box with his name, dates on it. I was so surprised at how fast this was done and so respectfully handled. Donna (our daughter) had called him for me as I could not talk, and he went and got Toby from the vet and handled everything for us. This was our first time not "burying" a beloved pet and I was so thankful for his understanding.
Things are getting a little better and it seems that Ashley is doing better since Toby is "home" now. We are going to take him to the farm and spread his ashes later.
