Headed back North

Wednesday, May 08, 2013

I won't be checking in for a few days since we are finally headed back North for the summer! Not looking forward to the long drive - approximately 30 hours (especially since my DH does not believe in stopping for anything but gas and a snack) but definitely looking forward to arriving back there and getting back in my Silver Sneakers classes ! Although I joined a gym while in Florida, they did not offer classes for seniors.

I take it you arrived safely & are back into the swing of your summertime routine. emoticon

I was totally surprised that a gym in the Sunshine State did not have classes for seniors. I believe that they should reconsider that policy.

I hope you will tell your Mr. that it is important on road trips to stop every few hours to get out & walk around a bit. emoticon We "Visions" make that a habit, &, thus, road trips continue to be enjoyable for us both.

Do y'all do the thirty hours straight through? We generally do about eight hours on the road, although during summertime travel, I would prefer going a bit longer. My beloved MrV tends to be one to "play it safe". His reasoning is that it is better to arrive at our destination safe & not tired out. I agree with him that that is to be considered.

I notice, from your sharing on your Spark page, that you & I tend to struggle with portion control. emoticon Lately, I have really improved with that - due to paying close attention & not allowing myself to add "just a bit more" to servings. I hope that becomes habit for me, don't you know? emoticon

    God bless!

Have a safe trip home..........I know a lot of people are staying south during the winter, and I don't blame them! Where do you live during the summer? emoticon

Have a safe trip, and think of some games you can play to distract yourself as the time passes. Like doing the alphabet on signs and license plates, or some other mental distraction games. Its not fun being stuck in a car but one thing good about your DH's method is that it will only be 30 hours, not 32 or 35. You can rock slightly back and forth or clench muscle groups, hold then relax (isometrics) when your back or legs feel tired to get the circulationg back to flowing. And that long a drive means time for good conversation and viewing the sights. It will still be a long trip, but it can also be a restful time and even some fun as you go! Have a great trip!
