A Serendipitous Kind of Day

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Something interesting just happened to me. In my 'review' on SparkCoach I wrote about an NSV I had yesterday. Here is what I wrote:

"I had an excellent day - I feel good about my progress. I had a breakthrough NSV yesterday when I 'slipped' and bought a package of Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies at the checkout at the store. (NO that wasn't the breakthrough LOL.) The breakthrough was only eating ONE with my dinner!! I was full after one and (after seeing how many calories it had) saved the other one for today. I don't think I've EVER only eaten one cookie when more were available!! So thank you!!"

Then I got to the community page and found this: "Think about the last "mistake" you made that left you feeling upset or off track. Now re-frame that event as a learning opportunity. What did it teach you? How can you be better going forward? Share your insights in a blog post."

Is that serendipity or what? I had already written my blog!! Well, most of it. My friends KNOW that cookies are a huge trigger food for me. The only way not to eat them is to not have them in the house. Of course I knew that when I picked up the cookies, but I figured what the heck? Its only two.

But to eat only one? That HAS to be all I've learned on SparkPeople kicking in!! Needless to say I'm a happy camper today!! Oh yeah - the scales were down today too!! YAY!!

Oh - and to answer your next question (I hear you thinking this Chelle!) I did NOT eat it later in the evening!! I did eat it just now - and enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the one yesterday. Life is GOOD!!

Congratulations! This would be a huge "aha moment" for me as well. I do pretty well when I am at home but am a disaster on the road. Even hiking 10 miles a day I can outeat what I burn every time.

Isn't it great when you have proof that you have really and truly changed? I'm still evolving, but Marilyn, you've got it going on!!!!! emoticon

That is so great and it is the things like that that end up showing us how much we've grown and how great we are truly doing! :D emoticon

Diane, I'm that way with Russell Stover Sugarfree candy - I can buy a bag, eat one serving each evening and be happy. But this is a first with cookies!!

And Natalie, unfortunately I still don't trust myself to have more than one package (2 cookies) in the house at a time!! This time I did it, but will I do it next time? I hope so, but until I'm below my goal weight again I won't chance it (I HOPE - packages of oatmeal cookies HAVE been known to jump into my grocery cart when I wasn't looking LOL!) emoticon

It's it nice to know that you can do it??!?!Everything in moderation and it is a learning opportunity and a lifestyle change! Look at you; having your "cake" and eating it to! An excellent day indeed! You're making it happen! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Fantastic! One really does not have to eat everything available. It sounds as if you have learned a lesson that you can apply to your daily food choices to allow yourself more treats with reasonable limits. I'm proud of you!

How wonderful!! I bought a package of cookies--fig newtons--cause I have been LOOKING in the house for "something" in the evening. I like them but don't "love them" so I have proven to myself that I can eat just ONE and feel that I have had what I wanted/needed. I hope the package lasts a LONG time!!

    Great for you!!!!
