FLOOD!

Saturday, September 14, 2013

I got to rack up the fitness minutes yesterday and today. I live in Denver & our basement flooded out, the wall down there cracked, and we had to dig trenches to send the water away from the house. We sandbagged the back door, kept either bailing or moving a sump pump from window well to window well, all in pouring rain. I feel like I've been beaten all over. Everything hurts, and now that my weekend is over, I get to go back to work tomorrow! Ugh. Double, triple ugh. And even being so stressed out I could barely eat and working hard for hours, the scale says I gained weight. I know its fluids I'm retaining from stress and inflammation, but it feels like added insult to injury. So grateful my partner helped so much and my dad and his neighbor drove 3-1/2 hrs avoiding closed roads to come and help us. Couldn't ask my neighbors for help since they were all flooded too! I just hope these storms are over.

I'm sorry you guys are having to go through this. I can definitely sympathize, though (I live in hurricane country and went through the devil called Katrina). I know that it's made worse by the fact that your neighbors are going through the same thing, so you can't just go next door to stay with someone while your house is being 'fixed'. My brother and my sister-in-law just got back from a vacation in Colorado (they picked a heck of a time, didn't they?). They said that it was raining the whole time, but that they had a good time because the people were nice and the state is beautiful.

Can you believe this weather??? I live in Denver too, and I work for the City and County, Street Maintenance and we've been trying to keep up with all the flooding! I'm so sorry to hear about your basement!
I just gotta tell you a funny story though, DPD called and asked us if we could send out the plows to plow the water off the streets...our reaction was "Ok, where would you like us to send it? Into the people who live around there's basements??" Duh!
Hopefully this is going to end and maybe we'll get our Indian Summer to dry things out a bit!
