Don't step on a crack, don't let the bed bugs bite, wear clean underwear....

Friday, November 22, 2013

I am sure most of us have heard more of these 'tid-bits' that we can stand especially when we were children! Let me tell you a story.
As most of you know since my stroke at the end of June, I just haven't been myself. Rashes from new pills, a big weight gain due to the pills and depression. I don't know if I would have had the stroke if I would have been thinner but I am blaming myself and what a horrible feeling to think I did this to myself. I guess I should have listened to my Momma when she talked about don't do this or that.
I've been trying very hard to drop some of this weight that I have put on. I have tried to exercise so many times but I keep thinking that's when I had the stroke. Again, I know you can have a stroke by just sitting in a chair. So with the extra weight and no exercise, my legs have gotten a lot worse.
So now the legs are worse and they can't get my Coumadin levels to where they should be so I have to keep going to the lab which is about to kill me! Do any of you see a negative pattern coming up? I'm now using two canes instead of one. I don't remember what it is called, but if you retain water you get these little water blisters on your legs? Guess who got them? Then a week or so later I got them on my other leg. I had an appointment with my doctor so I thought I'd ask him about them. They were going away by now, but he says they look like a rash some people get from the Coumadin. Should have listened to my momma!!
A few days after going to the doctor, I discovered what was causing my rash--Bed Bugs!!!!!
I could have died. When they show them on TV I always look away. I have the chills typing about them. We think that my friend had her sister in from another state and brought them with her. My friend had them a month or so before I did. She comes down every day. She didn't know what they were and I wouldn't have either.
Has anyone had any experience with these little critters? They are probably one of the smartest insects you'll find. You have to know that I am afraid of a spider. My world has been completely turned around. I have been lucky that they are not in my bed but they are in my couch. And since I bend my knees when I sit, I have been miserable because I have no place comfortable to sit. I have one hard dining room chain and the arm of a stuffed chair. If I sit in that, I can't get out. My legs have gotten so bad that I can turn only a certain way. I have a friend and his family come down when I really need some one. I'm had to call EMS several times. And it has cost me an arm and a leg so far to pay for all the clean up (closets, cabinets) anything you can think of.
I've been sprayed once and protocol calls for 2 sprayings then two checks, before all is cleared. And this is a Luxury Apartment! I probably won't be done until after Christmas.
I just figured no one knew what I was going through, I'd write you this little story for the Holidays. Should have listened to my Momma..
Seriously, please say a prayer for me!

Oh, you must be thinking "What else can go bad!?" Like you don't have enough to put up with...
What's next? Scourge of Locust!? Hey..maybe if the locust do show up, they will eat the bed bugs!
I'm betting the little critters got a foothold in the apartment complex. Maybe the apt. owners will chip in to the cost of getting rid of them! It would be to their benefit...They spread really fast.

    Good Luck! Theresa

So sorry for all of your problems, Noel. Another one of those says: It never rains but what it pours.

I hope they get your health issues straightened out for you soon.

As far as the bed bugs, absolutely - professionals must be called in. I also agree that the apt. managers must be notified. They will 'creep' into other apartments. Call for help immediately. Something must be done.

Prayers for you, my dear Noel.

Dear Noel, It seems when it rains it pours as our Moms used to say. So true for you recently my dear friend. I know bedbugs are rampant in many foreign countries so with all the imports of just about everything it doesn't surprised me that nice people like you know someone who brought them to you, not on purpose of coarse. I honestly don't know anything about them & fortunately I've never even seen a picture of them. I think Jeannie's right you need to let your apartment manager know ASAP about the bed bugs there, maybe you already have. . .It's probably best to get professional help but again I'm not sure what kind of treatment they do to get rid of them. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this problem on top of your health problems. Try to stay positive as much as possible and meditate or pray throughout the day to help relieve some of your stress and frustration. If you're able to sit and exercise you should join the chair exercise team as they have lots of sit down videos you can watch and exercise to. Praying that all your problems will be resolved soon. I miss you.

    Love You,

    Honouria,

Thank you for the advice but I have professionals taking care of the problem now. They were here 2 weeks ago and will be back on Wednesday. I am so petrified of bugs that I wouldn't let an ant live in here. I have googled and read all I can about the bugs. Up until this time I didn't want to look at them on TV and that can be a problem because a lot of people don't know what they look like and you are right, they can last a year without eating, The very sad thing is that there are some states that are being badly hit, that's it's taking at least a week or two for someone to come in and give you the first treatment. Thank you so much for caring.

All my other friends thank you for your concern and your prayers!

Noel, I'm so very sorry. I hope things start looking up for you soon! I see that Honouria mentioned professionals to deal with the bedbugs. I also thought that they will survive spraying and that the only reliable is a heat treatment type of thing? Hopefully, you'll get it all sorted out really, really soon!! The building managers also need to be made aware and begin to deal with it, as they can infest every apartment in the building, not just where someone has "brought" them in. Hugs to you, dear friend...I know we're always supposed to "make the most' of any situation, but it is hard to find the good in this one!! (((Hugs))). Love you!!! Jeannie

So sorry for the trials you are facing. I pray God gives you wisdom and resources to deal with every aspect, from bed-bugs to fluid retention, to exercise. I have done seated exercises, taking advantage of Spark's videos - it's a start. SOME activity is better than NONE.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you need to hire professionals immediately.

These critters are the worst there are to get rid of. Worse than cockroaches, ants or mice or anything else. They will infest your entire home, and the pros will tell you that you will likely need to throw out your infested furniture. If you don't act on this now, can you imagine having to replace all your mattresses as well?

Trust me, you cannot deal with this alone, and you had better hire the very best people you can get to get rid of them. They require specialized techniques in order to be destroyed - and they are going to cause you a lot of inconvenience.

Just to give you an idea of what you are up against - they can survive dormant up to a YEAR in your house and start the nightmare over again. Google Bed Bugs and you will get a lot of information.

I am not surprised that you have such severe rashes and bites. BTW - the are nocturnal feeders.
    My deepest sympathies.

There were stories in the news a while back about bed bugs coming on clothing, sheets, towels, etc. from China. They said to be sure to wash everything you buy before using it.

I saw one once in a motel on the bed...gave me the willies!

    I'll be praying for you.
