Motivation - Can You Say PLOF?

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

It's May 2014 and I've already posted a blog "Wow Where Does The Time Go," but, really, where does the time go?!!

I have to say that the one constant source of motivation for me this new year (can I say new in May?) is the spark team Proud Lesbians Over Fifty (PLOF). Although on the small side, I like to think of it as an intimate group where you consistently get support from familiar, friendly faces. The constant support is huge in managing the highs and lows of weight loss, not to mention life in general.

After having surgery in December, I developed plantar fasciitis so instead of coming away from the surgery healthy and ready to tackle my exercise/weight loss regime, I found I could hardly stand to walk (my absolute favorite form of exercise). I went straight into physical therapy (thank you insurance) and also massage therapy on a very regular basis. At first it was all I could do to walk out of the building and get across the street to PT/MT my feet hurt so much.

The therapy helped a great deal and I committed myself to stretching at home once the insurance ran out. Also, I took up swimming on Saturdays. Swimming on Saturdays has turned out to be a treat (not a chore) and I'm a better swimmer today than I was when I started. My form is better and I'm motivated to swim longer. Swimming is my yoga.

Now able to get across the street easily and even walk 1-2 miles, I continue to stretch regularly and make good exercise/nutrition choices as consistently as I can. PLOF is right there encouraging me and I feel accountable to my new found team which motivates me to push harder. Thank you PLOF!

I'm motivated to achieve my weight loss goal this year and I hope you are too!

I've had plantar fasciits twice. Both times it took at least a year before it healed. Good luck and just try to be patient. I know its hard to do when your feet hurt all the time.
