5% Spring Challenge Blog #3

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

OK, day 3 of blogging. This blogging doesn't get any easier. It is encouraging though to see the comments left by team members on my previous blogs.

My thought for today was how tough it is to stick to our nutritional and physical activity regimens while we are traveling. Being away from home takes you away from usual daily routines and you have less flexibility in scheduling activities and meals. Food is not always readily available and when it is available it might not be as nutritious as what you have at home. When you are really hungry you tend to overeat and not be as selective about what you do eat.

I only got in a 40 minute walk today because again we were up late and had to leave early this morning. For food we made some sandwiches to take with us on our travels. After 2 hours driving we stopped at a grocery store to pick up some fruit and snacks. We chose dried apricots for snacks instead of the evil bag of chips. After driving for about 6 hours we saw the DQ sign ahead and decided to treat ourselves to ice cream. Hmm it was good but not something we have at home.

We only have a 5 hour drive left to be home tomorrow. Will try to get my usual walk in the morning and hopefully the rain stops.

I find traveling, or long trips in the car very difficult as well! But you pick and choose what you can do and do your best to get in some exercise, too! That is what matters. I love coming back home to the "normal" routine and food!

Blogging is not my favorite challenge either. I haven't kept up with the blogs :(.

I have started packing sandwiches, fruits and healthy snacks for trips now. I was always a firm believer in "I'm on vacation, I can eat what I want to eat." So, I have learned something on the last four years.

emoticon emoticon And a great big emoticon for making the effort to blog daily - your Shooting Stars appreciate it!! I am impressed with the effort that you have put in to stay on track in the midst of your travels and I hope that the last leg of your journey goes smoothly!

I agree with both of your statements. I always try to take meals along when on the road. We travel with our cats so sometimes it is difficult to stop somewhere to eat.

Blogging is something else I find difficult, however I am taking a writing class for help with press releases. I find that if I am given a topic I don't do so bad.

You are an interesting blogger though and so far your topics have been very much on track.

Daily blogging is hard. I'm going to run out of things to say! I totally agree with this post; traveling is so hard. We traveled a few weekends ago and really had to plan out what we would eat. We accepted the fact that we would eat at McDonald's a couple of times but were resolved to make the best choice possible and track it when we got home.

Have a safe rest of your trip!

I agree that blogging daily is tough! I have no idea what I will write about today! LOL But you are doing well, and the Shooting Stars appreciate the points!!!! emoticon I also agree that sticking with a program when you are vacationing is tough. Last year at this time we were full-time RVers. We spent the summer months in Maine, New York, PA and Michigan. Even though the RV was our home, it felt like a constant vacation and dh and I both gained weight having lots of happy hours and snacks with friends! Then we moved to Florida and it felt like vacation again. I am finally on track again with eating healthy and exercising regularly.

Like you, I find that blogging doesn't get any easier for me either, but it does make reflect on my journey so I am finding it worth while and after this challenge I will try to continue the habit. Traveling does make it hard to stay on track. I am concerned that I will have a hard time over the summer when we are on the road more often. I hope that planning ahead will be of some help. Hope you enjoyed your trip. emoticon
