When You Want To Live

When you tell yourself your aches and pains are the reason you can't do something, you are only holding yourself back from great achievement.

For YEARS (and I mean most of my almost 40 years of life), I was convinced my broken body was the reason I could never be strong. Basically, I used my weakness as an excuse for being weak. I'm not sure what sparked the realization that this was all just a big excuse for not wanting to do it, or a cover for the fact that I just didn't love myself enough to care. I had been told it was just an excuse, but I had convinced myself that avoiding pain - or even the possibility of pain - was the only way to handle the pain.

What I didn't realize is that embracing the pain, working around the pain, was the only way I was going to heal. Sitting around and letting my muscles decay certainly wasn't working out well in the "healing" process.

Slowly but surely I am learning ways to strengthen my body without causing myself pain. I am learning when one type of movement hurts, there is another that doesn't. I am learning that by not allowing my pain to hold me back, I gain self-esteem and pride within myself.

I am learning there are no excuses when you want to live.
