Sometimes it's the little things...

Sunday, January 01, 2017

So, my workouts recently took a change for the worse. For the last few weeks, they've been grueling and a real pain to work through. I was beginning to lose focus and finding reasons to skip my workouts. This morning, I took a few moments to reflect on these recent changes, and try to work my way to the root of the issue. It occurred to me that I had suffered from an abscess tooth around a month ago. Ultimately, it required extraction, which was a great relief. Prior to this, I had always chewed sugar free gym while working out. I did this to keep my saliva production up, which kept my throat from drying out, and requiring me to drink water amidst my strenuous workout sessions. I don't like to drink water while doing such vigorous activity, as it throws off my cadence. It occurred to me that I had ceased this habit when dealing with my tooth, and that I had failed to pick it back up again once the issue was resolved... Eureka! I grabbed a pack of gum on my way to the gym this morning, and my workout was back to its old crushing routine! I am so happy I figured that problem out, and should be able to get back into my everyday routine.
