Was I the only one who gained weight at that meal?

Saturday, October 21, 2017

I went to an investment company dinner they put on for customers. I ate what was served: 3 pieces of yellow cheese and 3 crackers for appetizer; 2 glasses white wine. Dinner was a 5 oz filet mignon, about 3 oz baked chicken breast, about 3 oz roasted whole carrot and asparagus; 1/2 c mashed potato. 1 small roll and 1/2 pat butter. 1 slice red velvet cake. So everybody ate the same thing. I forget to mention I had eaten lightly for earlier in the day The next day I am up 2 pounds. I wondered if the same happened to other people. Or is it just me that can't enjoy an occasional decadent meal without gaining weight? That's why losing weight and maintaining it is so stressful. I always have to be on a diet. There's no letting up or else I'll gain weight. I get tired of it and want to eat what I want for once. And when I do. Bingo. Weight gain. And thats why I gained all my weight back--could not stay on my maintenance diet--it was the same diet as it took me to lose the weight.

I have never gained weight back like you did because I never lost it in the first place. So kudos to you for actually achieving that! I think what has deep down bothered me about losing weight is I totally know intellectually that indeed I WILL always have to watch pretty much every morsel I eat for the rest of my life and that just really irritated the crap out of me. I have never ever liked being told what I have to do, even if I am the one telling myself! Human psychology is a weird thing.

Right now I am in the beginning portion of working to lose 100 lbs, I am a health and physical education teacher and former college athlete who has battled with weight issues my entire life...even as a 135lb college basketball player who 'thought' she was fat. (I look back at my younger self and wish I could give her a hug and tell her she was just fine at the weight she was) Finding a post from you is part of what makes me think I can actually accomplish this goal this time. That and coming to admit the truth that this is going to be a lifetime project for me and I'm OK with that. I look forward to reading your thoughts on your blog and wish you well as you continue on your wellness path.

Is it possible that your gain is due to water retention because restaurant food is so very salty? That has always been one of my pet peeves. We all know though that the key is to get right back on track after a bit of a splurge. You can do it. We all can! Glad we are in this together. emoticon

Agreed. Every day we start over no matter what happened the day before. I must accept that I will always have to watch my weight because I gain weight so easily.

We have to make permanent changes to change our weight permanently.

What we do to lose the weight ... we have to continue to do to keep it off.
