Discipline. I need advice.

Monday, November 20, 2017

OMG I have a problem with discipline! I worked so hard for a few days; exercising, using the SP Nutrition Log, going to bed early and so forth and then I take a dive. I either drink too much, eat too much, stay up too late or all of the above. How come I cannot maintain discipline? What is wrong with me?

I have all these desires and goals. I know right from wrong. I have been on this fitness journey for many, many years. Is it because I am not morbidly obese and just seeking tone and to look decent in the pool; thus, not taking things seriously? Is it because I drink too much or have some childhood issues unresolved? Why can't I just stick to the game plan which I know will work if I give it a real good chance?

This is me venting. This is me asking the SP world to reach out and share your own battles with discipline and how you've overcome this battle. Please share how you have been able to go from A to B over and over until you've reach your ultimate goal. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of not sticking to my game plan.

Just venting...and I thank you for listening.

Old habits die hard and I'm proof of that. But what's worked for me is building on top of one small doable goal to realize many goals which keeps me motivated.

    Ex: walk 15 mins a day = 105 mins a week = 5+ miles a week (20 mins a mile) = 420 mins a month

Goal: walk 15 mins a day
    Goal: 5+ miles a week
Goal: 420 fitness mins a month

All from just walking 15 mins a day. I haven't found out how to convert this to the nutrition part of my goals but I'll think of something. Onwards and Upwards!

I could have written this blog and from the looks of the comments, it is a big problem for many of us. I gained 6 lbs over Thanksgiving after losing 10 lbs since joining WW. So, what I've decided, is to get right back in the game. I'm not going to keep those extra pounds around any longer than I have to. No guilt, it is what it is and I'm back in.

Plus, I thought I did a pretty good job while traveling over Thanksgiving and getting some (not much) steps in.

So back in the game, getting my butt to the gym, getting the water in and avoiding all alcohol until Fri Sat OR Sun.

I don't know how I missed your blog earlier so will comment now, sorry. I will be sure not to miss again.

For me it too can be hard at times but I have learned to change my mindset to healthier thinking. Don't get me wrong I'm def not 100% all the time, oh heck no, but my mind does know it and makes adjustments quickly. This change did not happen overnight for sure, it took lots of reading and experimenting with what I read ..... old habits are indeed hard to break and sometimes linger around waiting for the opportunity to slip in when we are at a weak point. We just have to keep reminding ourselves often in order to help make those changes in our brain.

Be patient with yourself but be committed to making it happen .... YOU CAN DO IT !!! Keep SPARKING and NEVER GIVE UP !!!!

Charley, I am with you on this one! I don't read all of the info, which will help me. Like my Spark Diet book,
But I am beginning with The Solution, by Laurel Mellin. She says it all relates back to feelings, and we have to check in with ourselves throughout the day, to see where we are at. Are we living above the line, or below the line and what do we need at that moment, support, etc.
Her books, The Pathway, and Wired for Joy are all on available used on amazon

I, too, have the same issue. I wish That I knew the answer, but I do think that a positive sign is that we are still here!
