"The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."

Sunday, July 22, 2007

When I know I am going to go visit my friends who live a good six hour drive away, I am excited about my visit and that I will be able to see them and do things with them. What I don't like at my age is the thought of the better than six hour drive. But once I get everything in the car, and head out, the dread of the drive is gone. I stop along the way and get out and walk around and rest and along the way I listen to my audiobooks and soon the time has passed. I don't even think of turning around and going home.

That's the way I felt about changing my unhealthy life style. Once I started on the road to physical well-being, I have found that the "drive" isn't so bad and that I will reach my destination, as long as I don't turn around and go back home. I've come too far to do that. Occasionally, I will stop along the way and rest and I will occupy my mind with all the wisdom of those who have gone down the same road and reached their destination.

By the way, before each trip I ask God to give me travelling mercies. I have done this each day on this the most important journey of my life, my journey with SparkPeople.

Ramona, you have a lovely way of expressing yourself. How true that we are on a journey, one that many of us have looked forward to for a long time. we have prepared for it and made our plans. Some of us have postponed the journey waiting for more favorable road conditions. Some of us have hit a few potholes on the way. Some have gotten confused and lost their way. But all who continue forward, and not turn back and go home, will eventually reach their destination. They will find that every minutes of the journey was worth every effort put into the planning and preparing and the long drive. If we do not give up, turn around, and go back home, this can be a never ending vacation and we will never have to make that long drive again.

May your journey go smoothly and the vacation last forever.

Ramona, you are an inspiration to me and in many ways I envy your busyness and ways that you always get things done for you and your family and friends. You are a great example as a co-team leader and as a caring supportive friend. May God continue to bless you as you continue this journey.
