'Measuring the Marigolds...seems to me you'd stop and see how beautiful they are'.
The song came back to me when I was fussing around with a tape measure this morning; breathing in; hoping I'd shaved a fraction off my waist, maybe hips, thighs??? I hadn't lost any weight on the scales this week so I'd reached for the tape measure, optimistic that the daily toning had paid off at least.
My lovely Dad would sing virtually every song recorded by Danny Kaye to me.. (I needed a lot of entertaining as a child!)... and the lyrics to the 'Inchworm' song, simple and meaningful, stuck in my head and re-emerged as I squinted at the tape.
My dear Dad didn't make it past 44 years of age. We have a genetic disposition to killer cholesterol and I don't mean 'killer' in a complimentary fashion. He battled with his weight and health most of the short time I knew him, but he had the knack of seeing the beauty in most every situation.
So, rather than put myself down for not achieving my goals this week (and I tried!), I shall 'stop and see how beautiful' I can be in other ways; giving others a helping hand and 'inch' forward again through the next week with a smile.
Wishing all a positive week.
