Thanksgiving Day

Friday, November 27, 2020

I went over to my parents house yesterday to make dinner just chicken paninis and spoiled their dogs, LOL. I miss having a dog and since my younger grandkitty babies are scared of dogs I won't get another one.

I started getting a sore throat yesterday sore throat drops and Chloraseptic spray had not helped it at all. I still have the sore throat this morning I am hoping that isn't a sign that my lungs will bother me again. I developed a GI bleed from the dexamethasone it has resolved itself a day after stopping the dexamethasone. I am waiting on my labwork that I had on Wednesday afternoon.

My dad fell Wednesday night and hit his head on something he has a cut between his eyebrows. My mom said they were up all night because it took her a while to stop the bleeding. His left eyebrow is really swollen up bad and he started getting black bruising under his left eye while he was over there yesterday afternoon. He really should be using his walker to keep him from falling. He just as I am is to stubborn to use a walker...sigh.

OH my gosh! Yes, if your Dad is so bruised, he had to hit his head pretty hard. HOPE he decides to get checked out.

That was good that you went over there.

I hope you Dad has nothing more than cosmetics to deal with and will be just fine.

Head injury in an older person must be watched carefully.
We learned this in 2016 when DH fell out of bed. No symptoms. We laughed about it.
3 weeks later, we thought he had a stroke. No, a very slow brain bleed - emergency brain surgery.

He is 100% fine but delayed symptoms like this can often be misdiagnosed especially in an older person and a stubborn one who resists going to the ER like my DH did until DD and I dragged him there.

Remember to take care of yourself while you care for others.

Hope your sore throat eases up soon, and that it doesn't develop into lung issues. Your Dad is going to look like the guy on the wrong end of a fist, for about 10 days. Hope you both heal smoothly & quickly!

I hope your father is okay - would he be willing to see his dr to make sure his head is okay?

And with the dexamethasone - I have asthma, and sometimes need steroids to breathe. They always hurt my stomach. My dr suggested using liquid antacids while taking the steroids - so maybe check with your dr about doing that as well if you need to take the rest of the dexamethasone - it made a huge difference for me.

losing independence is tough. I've had to accept that there are somethings I can't do anymore and have to ask for help. It's understandable holding on to your independence as long as you can. Small things are the last frontier to independence.
