Common Ground #2

Thought For The Day: When you watch, listen to, or read the news you expect to hear commercials. Let’s be honest – in America you literally can’t ESCAPE them. They’re on our clothing, on our billboards, on the names of our stadiums!
But, regardless of WHERE or HOW you get your news there is one constant: the commodity that is being sold.
And no. It’s not insurance. It’s not pharmaceuticals. It’s not pillows or kitchen gadgets.
Whether it’s Fox News, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Facebook, or InfoWars there is only ever ONE THING BEING SOLD.
You and I are the commodity that advertisers are buying. And news outlets have a vested interest in keeping our eyeballs on their content.
We all need to think way more about this. This is definitely a point of Common Ground that we can build conversations around. Let’s keep talking about this.
[EDIT: I'd like to reemphasize that these thoughts are JUST starting points. Talking to people who have been fed a diet of lies for years will take a lot of time, but it's essential work if we aren't willing to live in a failed democracy.]
