May 10, 2021 MIND CONTROL

If we were to search “mind control” on the Internet, it would bring up how others can control our minds and how we can take steps to control our own minds. It is possible to control our thoughts. So many of us allow our thoughts to wander. We allow our thoughts to control us. We allow our thoughts to cause us to be afraid, mad or happy. Why do we do this?? We shouldn’t allow our thoughts to cause us to be negative or overly emotional. Yet we do. We especially shouldn’t listen to our anxious thoughts.

When we allow our anxious thoughts to enter our minds, we are not allowing God in our thoughts. If we want to be sure nothing gets in the way of our relationship with God, we need to pray and listen to what He has to say. When we practice listening to God and trusting in Him, our thoughts can be filled with His word and His peace. Wouldn’t it be better to listen to God who loves us than to allow our thoughts to control us? Let’s ask God to help us use our minds for better things than the negativity that we allow our minds to think about. He can help us with our anxious, rebellious and self-pitying thoughts.

Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT)

1. Write what you think about often.
2. List what things God says to think about.
3. Know you will have a better life if you control your mind.
3. Seek ways to think of God more and the negativity of world less.

Dear Lord, we know we often allow our minds to control us. We get emotional as we build up things in our minds that are sometimes not even true. Help us, Lord, to remember to keep our minds focused on You. Search our minds, Lord, and show us what anxious thoughts, hidden anger, or self-destructive mindsets we have. Transform our minds so we are more aware of what we are thinking about and can keep our focus on You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (NLT)

Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (NLT)
