Fun on the Yampa - 6-14-21

The water is past peak, but still running high, so folks are out having fun on the Yampa River!
Jeff Hall got the above photos at the Yampa River Festival, when rafters and kayakers tackle the swift water (with mixed results, as you can see!). Jeff also found a much more placid section of the Yampa where folks were enjoying a lazy ride down the river:
Barbara Robinson noticed a fleet of kayaks on the river:
And even the fishermen were out enjoying a beautiful day on the Yampa:
It's good to be back in the valley, although we had a wonderful weekend. I was surprised at how GREEN everything was - the entire drive, hills were still a bright spring green. I loved seeing the wild iris blooming, whole fields of blue and purple adding color to the landscape.
There is no rain in the forecast so I know we're enjoying a respite. I drove past a forest fire on my way to the Eisenhower Tunnel on Friday (it has since been extinguished). And last night, driving over Muddy Pass, I went by a fox, panting over a deer carcass. It was 81 degrees.
