Welcome to the team! We're reading Radium Girls this month. Non-fiction history/science. We're voting on next month's read. Both threads are in the Monthly Reads Section if you're interested.

We have a few reading-related challenges if you're interested. Those would be in the Challenge section.

Every month, there is a pinned post for people to do quick reviews for books they've read. If you're looking for ideas, you can probably find something there.

Hello! I am a quiet "lurker" on teams, but I try to participate when I am able. I work full time and then some, but I'm trying to make reading more a part of my every day life. I do really well fall through spring and then summer is just SO BUSY but I know I still need to make sure I'm taking time to quiet the world through books!

I'm not big into fiction, though I will read it if it is intriguing enough. I enjoy history, forensic science (real deal, not just true crime, though I do love true crime), medical history, biographies, and art books / books about artists.

Some of my favorite books include "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac, "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb, "Mister God This Is Anna" by Fynn, "Our Lady of the Lost and Found" by Diane Schoemperlen, and anything by Roald Dahl. Also! "The Poisoner's Handbook" and "The Poison Squad" by Deborah Blum .. both fascinating looks at chemistry, the human spirit, and the human condition.

I love many types of books. I've read almost all of Michael Connelly's books about Harry Bosch (long before it got popular on Amazon); Patricia Cornwell; Greg Iles especially the Pen Cage stories; any of Lee Child's stories about Jack Reacher. And basically what ever else catches my eye. I often pick books to read based on their titles. And even sometimes, a book cover. I currently have 15 books that have been given to me I need to wade through.

Welcome to the team! I'm one of those people that always finishes books. That said, I do think there is something to a book not being the right book for the moment you are in. This may be the case with yours. What are some of your favorites? I have a few authors I know I can go to when I'm in a rut to get me out.

Hi there! I'm Bonnie. I've always been an avid reader up until a year ago. It isn't unusual for me to read 3 to 5 books when I take my winter vacation and 2020 was no different. Came home after 2 weeks on a beach to 2 weeks of quarantine, a birthday alone, a blizzard and a lockdown. Some how, over the year, I've left the world of books. On my days off, I'm buried in the computer, reading articles, talking to friends looking at photos. My goal is to get back at it! I dislike that I put the computer over a good book. I was gifted through my Buy Nothing Page, a book titled "Be Frank With Me". I'm very distracted with it and struggling through it. I always feel like my grandmother is sitting on my should telling me "if you start a book, you should really finish it". LOL. I am hoping that the book will become more interesting. I stumbled on this group quite by accident but I'm excited, hoping to reinstill my love of reading. Thanks!

Hi. I am an eclectic reader/listener. I love my audiobooks, especially at bedtime but sometimes require a good read the word book to keep me from getting distracted and losing my place. I have recently discovered Hillary Mantle's writing and I am listening to Wolf House, the first of a trilogy. I am so happy to have a very studious cousin who can recommend some really fine writers to me. I am eager to listen to discussions and learn of more great books.

Hi there! My name is Kristy and I am a work from the home mom of a 5 (almost 6) year old. I love to read, my go to genre is Fantasy. I LOVE Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony (Master at blending sci-fi with fantasy imo), Dean Koontz, Robert Jordan, Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, Rick Riordan and Erin Hunter. I could actually go on but I will stop there....lol.
I am an author having published 2 books and working on my third. I am basically a geek at heart.

Hello Book Club Team! I used to love to read as a kid; I even wanted to be a librarian, volunteering at school. University textbook reading turned me off and I was steered away from it as a teaching area. After that, reading was purely for research (creating lesson plans, personal knowledge, etc.)
emoticon
Now that Im retired, I have rekindled my love of books. I am part of a local book club that meets monthly (now via Zoom) and Im flying through audiobooks as I walk my daily 10,000 steps.
emoticon
As much as I get too much Spark mail, I realize that continued involvement will help me keep this lost weight from returning. I look forward to meeting some new, book loving, Spark members. Happy reading!

Hi fellow readers,
I'm tabitha.
I never know what to say in these things so excuse the awkwardness, please.
I like to read a variety of things but sci-fi and fantasy are frequent genres. I also like a good mystery. Authors I like: Agatha Christie, Piers Anthony, Isaac Asimov, NK Jemison, Leigh Bardugo, Octavia Butler, Ray Bradbury, Anne McCaffrey, and so many more.

I am a technical editor and knitting designer. I live on a small farm with my family, the chickens, dog, and cat. Currently, my front porch is the guest to about 6 hummingbirds.

Hi, I'm Lesley. Joined this group to find some different reads. Sometimes I feel like I am always stuck on the same author or same book and looking for inspiration here. When I get bored, I might play a computer game, and would rather pick up a book. emoticon

Welcome to the team. Some people have gotten copies of next month's book from Amazon. I lucked out and got an ebook from my library (mine is still closed). You might try that (if they have something like Overdrive or Hoopla). The other option is a free choice. The classics are usually easier to get copies (again, electronic). We picked Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for this month for that reason.

I am Chell and I am a teacher who teaches special education reading and math but I love to read. I teach 6th grade so sometimes I read the book they are interested in as well. I live in Ohio as well. I usually am reading 2-3 books at the same time. I normally have an hour commute as well so that eats up a lot of my time but I love where I teach. I am looking forward to being a part of a book club but trying to figure out how to get the books since my library is still closed? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the team! I've done more e-reading this spring than I generally have in years. I usually keep one ebook on my phone as an emergency book (getting stuck in a waiting room for hours). I do have a Kindle, but I have a preference for the physical book.

Hi, I'm Gill and live in the UK. Our library has been closed since the lock-down here in March. But I've been reading ebooks which I can borrow from the library app (Borrow Box). It's not the same as having a REAL book in your hands, but it's better than nothing.

I'm not a prolific reader, but I always have a couple of books on the go. I often find that I get trapped in reading non-fiction, and have to remind myself every now and then to choose a fiction book and ENJOY myself!

I'm still working - I work as a support worker with adults with a learning disability, so I'm on shift-work and don't usually have breaks to read at work. But since the lock-down, we have to take ourselves off into an empty space to eat and drink, so that has given me the opportunity to also access my phone and read a few chapters of my latest e-book!

I look forward to exploring the threads - especially the one where you've listed TBR - yes! I have several books on my shelf that I've picked up from swop shelves, or second-hand, that have remained unread.

Good morning all! My job is in the State Welfare system. I've held many positions throughout my career. The job itself can be pretty stressful so getting away for your breaks is really important. For about a year and a half I was commuting 2.5 hours a day and was getting plenty of reading time in. I got a job closer to home and really missed all the books I was enjoying. So I spend 1 hr a day walking on breaks and lunch and get my audio book fix in! :) I have a goal this year to read a book a week. I'm ahead of my goal right now at 13 of 52. I try to read all genres to give variety. I track what I read through Goodreads app. Currently reading The Silent Patient; Hello, Summer; and The Unteachables. Looking forward to getting new ideas for books to read. I have never participated in a book club and am not really great at writing reviews, so we will see how well I participate in that area. :)

I work 3rd shift as a MedTech and reading keeps me awake. I decided to read 20 books for 2020 but I think I will have to change that at this rate.

Hi all!

My name is Heather, and I have loved the written word since the first book my mother read to me as a child, however, life has happened and the adult world demanded a lot of my time. But I am here to steal back a little bit of my childhood and get lost in a few books.

Hi! I'm Alicia and I'm from Tennessee. I've always loved to read but slowed down my book intake after having kids. I decided to change that a couple years ago and started reading more. I tend to be a historical fiction/fiction junkie but this year I'm trying to read several books from many different genres (an idea that I got from my daughter's 7th grade English teacher). Currently, I'm reading North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Welcome to the team, Kristine! I found myself doing something similar with reading material. Between the Popsugar challenge and this team, I seem to do that less often.

Kristine here. Lifelong avid reader. Some years I pick a genre or theme and then choose books that fit - there was the year of disaster reads and then a year of grief memoirs! This year seems to be mostly historical fiction, although I didn't make a conscious effort to chose that genre. Also seems to be a year of newly published books so I have stopped reading WSJ, NYT, and even Goodreads new book reviews Too many 'old' books on my to-read list are calling to me. Am retired so am blessed with more reading time than ever before. I belong to book discussion groups in two libraries. Read on!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kristen! I am from the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada, born and raised. In my spare time (what little I can find between work and kids) I love reading and writing and playing with my dog.

I am really happy to be here and look forward to meeting everyone!

Cheers!

Hello! I am new well sort of to spark. I used it years ago and tried some other things. However, I have gotten to where I am now more interested in healthy habits instead of the quick weight loss. I am an avid book reader who just found a subscription box for coffee and a classic. I usually alternate between a psychological thriller and then a Christian novel. I always have at least one personal development book going either on audio or in paper. I look forward to reading with you all.
