Hello My Name Is Michelle I am the mother of 2 teen boys, I met my husband as a teenager and we have been together since 1993 married since 1997.

I was 125 lbs when I got pregnant with my 1St son after I had him I was 148 lbs then I tried so hard to loose the weight over the next 3 years and I would loose a few pounds and I would end up gaining double what I lost, over time I ended up being 199 lbs.
Then I got pregnant with my 2ND son after I had him I was 226 lbs, I had my tubes tied on the day of my second Childs birth in 2000, After some healing time I tried again to loose the extra pounds and the same thing happened, again I would loose then gain double back. It became very overwhelming I became depressed and my anxiety was crazy.

I ended up getting my hysterectomy in 2003, I had to get my hysterectomy at the age of 25 due to a cervical cancer scare I went into pre menopause.

I Have tried to loose weight and had no luck I was trying everything, then I found out that I have sleep apnea I started the c pap and continued trying to loose weight I bought stuff from TV Pills DVD's Equipment plus more. even Gym Memberships, Nothing helped and I was focused and I counted calories and everything nothing helped.

I don't eat very much, But I make sure I do get 2 to 3 meals a day I do my best to make good food choices (I have a very limited budget so I get what i can afford) I do not drink soda and avoid all food that are bad choices. I am so afraid of what other medical conditions I may get do to my weight and family medical history.

I am now 295 lbs I was at 305 lbs My doctor and I have tried everything besides surgery, I need help I need ideas on good exercises to do and recipes I am hypoglycemic #my husband is pre diabetic so I try to do recipes that will be good for him) I need all the support and help I can get, so please if you can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I cant wait to get to Know the Spark People community.

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME Peggy! I don't have any family around me either, so we can be your surrogate family! You're not alone with the symptoms you are having. I used to think perimenopause was one big PMS. You know, angry/crying flip flopping of emotions. But we are all here for you!

Hi I'm Peggy.
I have been on Sparkpeople for a number of years but I have a few issues and now to add to my list is Perimenopause!
I have been an emotional eater most of my life and last year I was diagnosed with diabetes so if my blood sugar is high my emotions come into play and I am told the same thing is true with menopause but all I know is that I seem to be doing a lot of crying.
Unfortunately I do not have any close friends to help me or any family I can rely on either so I am going though all this pretty much alone so I was very glad to see this team to hopefully help me though this newest challenge!

Hi There! I'm Pam. I started sparkpeople 4 years ago right after my youngest son was born and I was laid off from work 3 months later. I just turned 42 at the end of October. I have two boys, my oldest being 8. I have been experiencing menopause for a couple of years now. I took a hiatus from sparkpeople and have recently started working with it again. My mood swings have been terrible. I used to be a laid back, easy going person and now I get angry at the littlest things. I thought it was from the medicine I was on last year before my surgery in November, but I have stopped those last spring. I'm only taking Celebrex for my arthritis so I'm assuming the menopause is what is causing my mood to change so quickly. Anyhow, this week I have given up coffee and am monitoring what I eat. I'm also starting to exercise again. As of today I feel great and my mood is great!!

Hi Everyone! My name is Bea! emoticon

I am 41 years old and I had to have a hysterectomy last year as a result of Stage 3 2C endometrial cancer. It threw me into surgical menopause. I'm 14 months cancer free now (yay!) and now that I'm done treatments, I'm trying to deal with losing the weight that I put on after my surgery and as a result of my cancer treatments. Losing weight during menopause is hard y'all.

I'm also looking for some non-hormonal ways to alieviate the hot flashes and night sweats. My husband is always cold and put the flannel sheets and electric blanket on the bed this week - mercy me I'm dyin'!

Be the change you see in yourself.

To Diffiant,

I have Schizoaffective disorder-bipolar type. Which means I have the thought disorder that manifests in Schizophrenia and the mood disorder like you have with bipolar disorder.

In regards to your moods I would say that it is very hard to tell if it is from Perimenopause or your mood disorder. I think it is important you work with both your psychiatrist and your gynecologist to get you through this time as it can be difficult. I think that sometimes it is not as important which causes the mood swings, but that they are treated so that you can remain as stable as possible. Bipolar disorder can manifest itself very differently in different people as I am sure you know.

Know I am on this team and that I do understand both your problems. (I am sure there are others out there that can relate, too.) I will also friend you. Then you can check out my spark page and blogs easier. Good luck and have a great day!

Angie

Hi! emoticon My name is Linda and I've been perimenopausing since forever it seems like. I just turned 52. My Dr. put me on birth control to regulate my ever occurring and very heavy menses. After two years, she told me I could take them continuously to avoid having a period completely. I was beyond ecstatic. Occasionally, I would spot a bit, but haven't for a year. I imagine when I go back to Dr. in the Spring, she'll want to put me on HRT instead of the birth control. Hot flashes and night sweats have become more intense lately. Oh what fun it is being female! emoticon

On a lighter note, I'm married, have three awesome children (two daughters, 26 and 24 and a son, 22), and a granddaughter who will be 4 in December. I live in South Carolina and work as a secretary/receptionist for an architect. I don't love my job, but it paid the bills while I was a single mom for many years.

Looking forward to meeting others going through the same things that won't think I'm absolutely nuts-o!

I use progesterone cream and it helps. I have hot flashes all night but havent had night sweats in some time. Ask your Dr for recommendations and I can tell you, more is not better. Use the suggested amount and I hope you have great results. I have also been using SAM-E an amino acid which seems to help with agitation. Good luck!

Hi Ladies. My name is Angie. I am 51 years old and have been going through perimenopause for over 2 years.

I have been losing weight since I found out I was pre-diabetic in 2010 and took the Diabetes Prevention Program through the local YMCA and a local hospital. My highest was 281.

I have numerous chronic conditions including osteoarthritis causing chronic pain, osteoporosis, and GERD. I also have a mental illness that at times leaves me incapacitated. I recently spent 8 weeks in 3 separate hospitals. I am stabilized now and feeling pretty good. I have much support through friends, family, my church family and my NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) family.

The perimenopause on top of the mental illness has been a challenge. My memory is not what it used to be and that is not all from the mental illness!! Hot flashes and night sweats are familiar to me. I am just now getting back on SP, so be patient with me as I might not post a lot.

Glad to have found this team!

Good morning. This is my first team and not sure what to do but I will give it a shot. I am a 50 year old married mother of two boys. I have been researching this topic and have found some OTC solutions to irritability, but the increase in belly fat is making me nuts. I am very healthy, I work out using Shawn T or P90X 5 days per week and eat sensibly. Over the last three years I have lost 20 pounds and gained 10. Easing into my 50's and still wanting to "look" trim has undermined my ability to eat healthy. I started juicing (kale mostly) and believing healthy is better than thin.

I have a full and active social life. I work part-time and love what I do. I struggle with insomnia and stress from situations beyond my control. I also struggle with agitation which seems to be better but not gone. I have some cyclical depression and am looking forward to some of these symptoms being over.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me a goodie since I joined. I've had frequent periods (about every 2 weeks), it last about 6 months in my mid-late 30's. At that time & probably for about 3 to 4 years later I would have hot flashes & night sweats. Then those stopped. I'd been pretty regular, maybe a little longer then usual cycle followed by a shorter cycle.

I had a rough summer: diagnosed as vitamin d deficient and with sleep apnea. Spent my summer sleeping and resting. Since then I've gained and 10 lbs. Grrr. . . . .I've not had a TOM since July. Just hoping it's over & done with and it's not due to the stress of this summer. I've never been late due to stress by more then a couple of days though.

Thanks for the welcoming messages and nice to see someone else in Europe here as well! :) (I am American, but live in Italy)

Yes, I was talking about another subject matter I read on the Team here, "The 12 Types of Menopause".

Okay, the last few days were very busy, but now I have time to dedicate to self improvement again!
This is so wonderful to be able to share and learn things from others in our age group. PHEW! I am relieved! :)
Have a super day!

Hi, I am Elizabeth, age 47. I hit early menopause and was under high stress in my early to mid 40's. Now life is much more calm, I have a few medical issues that are ... gradually improving. It's amazing how much our hormone levels effect EVERYTHING though.

Health and nutrition, decreasing the numbers on the scale will be best and most helpful in the long run.

I just saw the scale for the different kinds of menopause. Without knowing my exact numbers, my guess is 10 -12. ?? emoticon

Hopefully here there is a good group going with daily motivations and accountability for reaching daily goals (for me - I am queen of lazy when it comes to cooking).

Have a nice weekend All!

Hey, Katrina!

I have trouble sharing links with my kindle, okay, any time but, if you go to the symptoms part of our team page and type in mood swings, you'll get a bunch of threads where folks have made suggestions. I like herbal teas, like Tzao Calm, or Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer. You might want to double check with your doctor since you take bp meds.

I would like to know if anyone knows of a natural suppliment for moods. I have tried Black Cohash (from Wal mart) and that does not work. I do have a lot af headaches too and that gets me irritated.
