Yes I sure understand the need to vs the do I need aspect of snacking. If I could get a handle on that... wow!! I found the stress techniques to be very helpful.

My surgery is set for February 14. It's a little longer off than I had hoped and a little more extensive, but it will give me some more time to adjust and get my mindset where it needs to be.

I'm finding myself sitting all tensed up so I know I need to work on those stress reducing techniques every day. Deep breaths at a slower pace and the qi gong video helps. I need to do these every day.

I also need to recognize "why" I'm looking for a snack, and recognize that I am probably not physically hungry, but am eating for some other reason, and then deal with it.

MOONGLOWSNANA, I will be praying for you and your upcoming surgery. Yes that certainly is a stresser.

The snacks thing is tough, isn't it. I read on SparkPeople that it is better to have some snacks on the ready - already bagged up, so you don't over do.

For me, I am trying to cut back on how much I eat. Portion control! During the Christmas/New Years my portion control got totally out of hand. Tough to reel it back in - but I am working on it.

I'm Nana to10 and am 65+ and I also have over 50 pounds to lose. I really like Spark People and have learned a lot since joining around Thanksgiving. I just haven't figured out how to lose weight yet! I'm increasing my exercise though and trying to eat more healthy snacks since I seem to be having trouble giving up my snacks. I'm having some stress right now due to an upcoming surgery so I'm working on some stress busting techniques and trying to keep a positive outlook. We all need help sometimes and helping ourselves first is best so that then we can help others with understanding and experience.
