Hi, I'm new and staring fresh. I am a 57 year old wife, have 2 adult children and am owned by 4 dogs. I have been plagued by worsening health for many years, most of them beginning after the birth of my children. Included in the long list of conditions Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Bipolar Disorder, Sicca Syndrome, Bone Spurs in my throat, Hammertoes, Low Thyroid, Sleep apnea, and Lymphedema.
I am in dire need of joint replacement surgery in both knees. I have had both shoulder joints replaced and surgery to reposition 8 toes. When I saw the knee surgeon in June, I was told to meet his criteria for surgery I had to weigh 240 pounds or less. Currently I weigh 298. down from 312 pounds at my first appointment. The pain from Osteoarthritis is so great I an anxious to lose the weight, plus I have to rid my body of the edema which has started to cause many problems. At home I use a walker to get around, in public, I use a wheelchair for anything more than a few feet. My husband and I have suffered several setbacks in the past 7 years. He was let go from his high paying job and I had to quit work. We lost our house and moved in with my MIL. The adjustments were difficult for everyone. MIL moved in with her daughter so she could get better care than here with me. We continue to live in her home. We went from being upper middle class to being poor. My husband is underemployed after several years of unemployment and I am on disability. Every day is a struggle. We have survived because of faith and the kindness of those we have met unexpectedly who have helped us beyond measure. I continue to try to bolster my faith and keep on the path to getting healthier and live with a positive attitude. Someday I hope to do volunteer work as a means to give back.
