I have been a plant based (vegan) and followed Dr G for a couple of years now, but my weight has been creeping higher from the goal weight Iíd already achieved and maintained. I now need to lose ten pounds! I know WFPB is the way to go, but this is very discouraging. Iím here to learn and tweak my diet to lose the added weight and maintain it in a healthy way.

I started watching nutritionfacts.org back in Jan '19. An actual Dr with studies! Facts and not fiction.

When I have a question, I go to see what Dr Michael Greger has said about it.

My husband also started into wfpb (we do esselstyn) when he had a mild heart attack April '19.

We love it. My story and his is in my profile.

I made a big casserole from The China Study All star collection Recipe Book tonight, Beans, chili beans, onions, corn, layered with a white bean and salsa, topped with hash brown potato shreds, for dinner. I can't wait!

WHITE-GREEN: Everyone has to listen to their own body and eat what serves them best. If it consistently causes you pain, eliminate it.

I have a condition that sometimes responds to a gluten free diet, and I tried gluten free for about 3 months about a year ago, but it didnít help me.

Hi PJINCALI1!
Nice to have you on the team!

You've made wonderful progress with WFPB eating!

Thank you for posting the recipe! I looked at it and I think I'll give it a try, though I won't use barley or rye berries as I have an intolerance to gluten. I know dr. Greger is skeptical about gluten intolerance BUT I have so much evidence that I get belly aches and cramps and also inflammation aches in my body that I have stopped using any grains with gluten...

Hi!

I am glad to have found this SparkTeam.

My health journey started when I turned 50. I was overweight and my A1C was increasing. My mom introduced me to PBS programs featuring Dr. Fuhrman on how to reverse diabetes and I bought his books. I started watching youtube nutrition videos while exercsising on my elliptical, and was exposed to many leaders in the Whole Foods Plant Based movement, including Dr. Greger and his nutritionfacts.org website. I bought his book How Not to Diet and read it avidly.

I have been implementing many of Dr. Gregerís tweaks since December 2019. I am preloading my meals with 1 cup Trader Joes Garden Patch tomato/vegetable juice with spices. I add 2 teaspoons vinegar, ľ teaspoon each of cumin, black cumin, turmeric, ginger, garlic powder and a dash of black pepper to help the absorption of the turmeric.

I also have my own recipe for BROL (Barley, Rye, Oats, Lentils) that Dr. Greger talks about in his book, and he promises his own recipes will be in his How Not to Diet Cookbook. My recipe is recipes.sparkpeople.com/reci
pe-detail.
asp?recipe=3528890

I love BROL. It is hearty and chewy and has a delicious mild flavor. I like it much better than the steel cut oats that I was eating. Dr. Greger also recommends barberries and I add them to my BROL as well.

I have been at my goal weight for some time, but I am interested in converting fat to muscle. So I am very interested in his tweaks for burning fat and losing inches off the waist.

Hi Linda! Thanks for posting!

My husband too is not really 'on board' with this eating though he does not eat a lot of junk (just lots of bread and some sweets; he does not eat meat). He too will eat what I cook. I sometimes think it's easier if your 'other half' is on board but this is the reality and I have to somehow deal with less than healthy foods being in the house. I'm glad that my husband is willing to hide or even lock away the foods that I find hard to resist.

My name is Linda and I joined this lifestyle in August. I like Dr. Greger's website and refer to it a lot.

I have a husband who is not on board with this eating, but eats what I cook. I occasionally will cook meat for him. Unfortunately he also likes his junk food and does not see anything wrong with it, apparently. I just try to resist or tell him to his this junk that he brings into the house.

I have no children, am 69 years old and want to be healthy by age 70 (November). I have two kitties and lots of nieces and nephews, some have kids. I love art and now cooking WFPB.

Thank you Em! Would you please post the link on the 'Share information here' forum? I think that's the best place! Just start a separate thread if you like.

Hi Sue and Em! Nice to see you joined the team!

I'm Christina,I am 54 years old. I can't really remember how I first heard about dr. Greger... I got a lot out of his book 'How not to die' and out of the website. I just got 'How not to Diet' and am reading it with great interest.

Hello!

I love Dr. Greger. Happy I met him at a veg fest a few years ago. Energizer Bunny!
I started looking at plant based- no oil years ago when I was 20 and working as a nurses aide- so about 38 years ago. I read The Pritiken Program for diet and exercise. I could see the food they served at the nursing home was not helping the patients.
-anyhow at age 20 and with being in college the journey had begun.. but took many twist and turns.
It does amuse me to know that Dr. Greger's Grandma was one of the patients listed in the Pritiken book. Back in 1979.

We are ewmpty nesters- but the 4 kids will be around for the holidays. Plus- boyfriends/ Girlfriends- and we love to cook and eat. Some of it will be SOS free but they will also cook some cookies- probably vegan as 2 of the kids are-

ok!

Hi, I'm Sue. Married, childless, one cat and getting nearer to retirement age.

I eat a mostly plant based diet and am learning as I go. First came across Dr. Gregor's work with his first 2 books. Found the web site and have heard and/or seen him on podcasts and YouTube. I get a big kick out of his personality and am looking forward to getting the most recent book. DH is giving me the book for Christmas, so I haven't looked at it yet.

I admire his dedication to the cause and the amount he gives to it.
