Hi NEW to the team. Was on SP before and lost. Son went through difficult times needing treatment, family needed me. Dealt with stress and am back but kept losing while off SP. Depression sets on and off for hormonal and health issues and increased debilitating migraines thought to be tied to this over the last 4 years have increased depression (though tried to put it to stress, have to admit to it having escalated). Have changed meds to more herbs, vitamins and trying to find my life back to living healthy. On bad days, I still have times not being able to fight it but the herbs and vitamins are shortening the period of time. Husband and teens are amazing. My Chihuahua saves my life. Happy to find this group.

Good morning Crissy, sorry I screwed up and missed your post yesterday, and so sorry to hear about your PTSD. I so strongly believe that daily exercise, outside, just the way SparkPeople teaches will help you so much that I would guarantee it if I only could. I also believe in following their nutritious eating plan, tracking everything you eat, then at the end of the day, clicking on the "nutrition" button to see how you are stacking up on getting all the nutrition you need.

I immediately saw that even at my best, I was never getting anywhere near all the nutrition I need. I don't know how I survived. I went in for a battery of tests and I was malnourished on just about every vitamin and mineral. Lol. So I'm struggling to get my nutrition up. In addition to eating right, I believe in supplementation, particularly if a person is eating to lose weight or has a large body, like I do.

Also, as a depressive, one of the first things I did, was go to SparkPeople's search engine and look up "increase dopamine" or "increase seratonine" which are chemicals our brains excrete to control whether we are happy or sad. The first information I found there was very helpful, and there is a ton of info that is helpful.

Depression is very hard to overcome, but you can. I call depression my inner critic. I tells me that I am not good enough or not worth it. This is not true! We are worth it. It is time for us to resist this destructive voice. I am still healing and have a long journey ahead. I am so thankful, that they have this challenge, that we can learn, manage, and get support from this forum. emoticon

Feel free to message me anytime. I'm old enough to be your Dad, but that could be good. I have many friends who are both twenty to thirty years older and younger than me. Hello my name is Gin and I'm 32. I've been married now to a wonderful man for almost 2 years. Between us we have 5 children (16 and 17 year old boys and 11, 7 and 6 year old girls). I have been battling depression since i was a teenager and have tried to end things several times. I am now in the care of someone and takimg medicine that helps. Hello! My name is Crissy and I'm 32 years old. I've been married to my husband for 12 years and we've been blessed with 2 children (12 year old son, 4 year old daughter).
Several months ago, I was hit with a very emotional situation and since then, I've been dealing with depression along with PTSD. There are days when I feel like I'm not going to make it. There are days when I don't even want to get out of bed. Lord, forgive me, but there's even been times when I've wondered about just leaving.
I've been told that a healthy lifestyle will help me battle this demon called depression and that's why I'm here. I'm here so that I can look this demon in the face and knock him completely on his butt. I refuse to allow depression to keep its hold over my life. I'll defeat him because there is no other choice.

Thanks Mrs. Toad. Don't know what you mean by "joining" a thread, but I'll figure it out.

Rather than flavor, store chains choose strawberry varieties for resell that give fairly uniform color and size of berries. That's part of the reason you'll never see Oregon's Hood variety in stores, also because they mold in 24-48 hours. But shoppers won't buy the smaller berries or the ones with a green spot, so merchants can't sell a variety that isn't large and uniform, even if it tastes heavenly, because customers erroneously think that big uniform berries are better. If customers would all sample the smallest strawberry in the store, and buy on taste, then the stores would sell the best tasting strawberries and farmers would grow varieties that taste the best and horticulturalists would stop trying to breed or hybridize huge, perfect looking strawberries, and start trying to make us the best tasting ones instead. For at least 50 years they've been breeding us worse tasting strawberries in an effort to give us uniform ones. That's true of most fruits and veggies. Without chemicals, I can grow produce in my own back yard that (proven) has 4 times the nutrition of anything you can buy in the store, organic section, farmer's market, co-op or anywhere else, and along with nutrition comes better flavor.(Sorry, I was once a produce manager, besides growing up on a farm in a farming community where strawberries were a prime crop. I know more than I should about it. lol.)

Hi David, I'm almost sort of new. I've been active six weeks, but this is my first post here, I think. I'm bipolar. So I know what sudden depression is all about, but mine can last a few hours or a few months at a time and just starts out of the blue for no reason. However, it's usually preceded by a bout of mania of some kind or other. So I kind of have an idea it might be coming. Mania is a really sick feeling most of the time too. It's like you know you're about to do something horribly wrong, but you can't stop yourself.

I can diet well, exercise and all that to lose weight successfully, but when a bout of mania or depression hits me, it all goes out the window. So I know what you are talking about, only, maybe times four. Lol.

Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you and I thought that maybe we could friend each other and help each other along. I'm a pretty good person to lean on, and I need to lose 250 pounds so I plan on being here for a long time. What do you say?

Usually when you're having an emotional crisis with no apparent cause, you call your best friend. But what do you do when your best friend is having an even bigger crisis, and her cause is very apparent? Fortunately, I had a bit of a cry, which cleaned out enough of those nasty chemicals to allow me to be supportive of her when she called me. And I was able to go to karaoke last night for the first time since at least November.

Hello group, I am new here, too! I just joined today looking to make new friends who are like minded in doing something healthy! I broke my ankle this last August and it was the toughest thing I have ever endured mentally... um, yea... not to mention the physical pain. Hi my name is David. I join 4 days ago trying to find me. I've been depress for almost 32 years now. First was the death of my mom and also 2 fail marriages. So im trying to better myself because of being depress for so long I've top out at 284 I got down to 256 and I'm back at 270 now. I'm hoping to get back in doing good with health and fitness. Hello everyone! This is my first day and I'm so excited to begin this new healthy living journey! I'm hoping to lose roughly 50 lbs and simply begin to LIVE healthy! I can't wait to get to know all of you and see what we all can accomplish!

I hear ya! I've suffered from depression my ENTIRE life, but only recently started struggling with my weight, thanks to corticosteroids. I'm here for you!

Hi, everyone! Another newbie here. I just started the program last Thursday, so I haven't charted any progress yet. Shooting for firm muscles and a smaller waist, with the "side effect" of losing around 30 pounds. emoticon

It sounds like you may be changing your diet as well as your exercise/yoga routine. I'm confident that these changes will help you reach your goals. As for practicing yoga at home, I make a date with myself on my busy calendar. Setting a time slot on my calendar helps me maintain my yoga schedule. Likewise, I vary my routine to keep it interesting. Sometimes I use a DVD and at others, I use my Free On Demand section from my Cable Company to find new yoga routines.

Whatever you decide, remember that we are here to help you stay motivated. Feel free to jump in on any of our many threads.

(Just a reminder to anyone reading this post. Always consult a doctor before changing the dosage on your medication.)

Hi,

And Happy New Year to everyone.

Finally, I am feeling motivated to make positive lifestyle and diet changes to improve my overall health and wellbeing, after 2 years on medication for depression ( which also included anxiety medication for one and a half years). I am vegetarian, and now considering a vegan diet, so if any of you have any interesting information to share regarding a healthy vegan diet, I would love to hear.

I have followed a mostly healthy diet for the biggest part of my adult life but, gained weight ( an extra 30lbs +) whilst taking the medication. I am currently reducing the medication, and have noticed that my weight is fluctuating regularly during this process. I aim to be medication free by the end of March 2017!! For that, I'd like to build up towards a "clean diet". During this period of illness, I have researched and discovered how certain foods can worsen conditions like anxiety and depression.

Normally, I walk most days, and I am looking forward to returning to 2 yoga sessions per week after a 3 month break due to an injury.

I would love to hear how people motivate themselves to practice yoga at home, and how you vary outdoor walks to keep the motivation levels up.


So excited to have joined, and really looking forward to discovering more about my diet and where I have to make improvements with food awareness!!

I'm Donna and I just turned 40. I have a 10 year old wonderful daughter, 3 Boston Terriers, and a 26 year old husband. I am a stay at home wife/mom and coupon addict! I have a great life, but major health issues and being away from the corporate world is really hard on me. I am lucky to have a supportive family. I weigh about 162lbs and I am looking to loose 40lbs this year hopefully. Due to my health issues it will take me longer to get there, but I don't give up EVER.

Life is grand, Love is real, and beauty is everywhere.

Hey Ya'll.

I'm Kelly, 33, mom of three beautiful children. I'm married to the love of my life (7 years and counting). I work full time in the mental health field as a case manager. I have struggled with anxiety and depression most of my life but just recently began seeking treatment for it. I'm currently trying to manage without medication due to having a new baby and nursing. So far I'm doing alright but there are definitely days where I feel the blues rear their ugly heads.. I do pretty good keeping it in check though and when I don't I have my hubby to help me stay focused.

I'm looking to start living a healthier lifestyle, making better food choices, and getting more exercise (once I'm cleared by my doctor) as a means of improving my over all mood. I'm excited to start this journey :)
