It is good to have the little things we used to take for granted to return. My daughter had friends for a meal and get together. Will look on your page. What will your grandaughter do?
Nice to also be able to go together to an art show. Is this your friend?
I have garden club on Thursday and hope the rules are relaxed soon we cannot take food to share

Brenda, great that you met you step goal. I think I need to track my food intake. Been lazy and it show.
Sorry the bad weather kept most of the group away.
Yes, mold can be a problem.
Someone who is making stuffed toys for the police and firemen to give to children who have been traumatized had not thought that a toy kept in the truck of a vehicle would be sanitized by the heat.

I attended the lunch the family had for my youngest granddaughter to celebrate her high school graduation today. It was nice and good to see everyone. If you look at the picture of the five girls on my page she is on the far right.
I plan to take two of the girls to an art show of lady artists of Guam this week. That should be fun.

I joined fatsecret using the name craftybee. I am having trouble but logging food seems easier. I have met my step goals today. Not bothering to log them here. Thanks for the information about the group.
Bad weather today only 4 turned up for art so we did our own thing
At lunch we talked about air conditioning. I am allergenic to mold that shows up in my blood tests and can be in air conditioners. I thought maybe others might have a similar problem. Not car because it gets too hot. Most of us don't like the heat from them. Got a new electric blanket this week.

Brenda, the Grandmother’s Fitness Club of whom I am a co-leader will be setting up a private FB group. I have proposed we open it to other ladies who are on other teams that there are only a few active. I will let you know more when I get more feedback. My thought for the name may be, The Grandmother’s Fitness Club and Friends.
Great rule about catching fish.

Alison, Guam has a lot of restrictions so our graduation group was small. We have had more in church attendance. I sat where I usually sit which is in the back, under the air conditioner so it blows out from me and not so cold.
Thank you for your prayers about my medical treatments.
I had not thought about a mask to save you from the dust and smoke. Breathing may have been really difficult though.
Some of the people I know are in Australia. I will try to send them the information about the site.

I have done little today. I did get out and walked the cul-de-sac once but should have done it more. Just plain lazy.

Brenda I agree that Facebook can be great for keeping in touch with far flung friends, family, and former work colleagues. And some of the tutorials are great, I've used ones for playing guitar and some art projects. My dad was an avid fisherman, and I remember eating fresh trout that he caught on our camping vacations.

Jane like you I am getting more comfortable getting out and doing things, but I am still avoiding large groups indoors (like movies) if possible. I am really glad you attended the graduation. Re medical treatment, I'll be praying for you.

A friend pointed out that I should have used my N95 masks when spreading the bark dust and being in the smoke. As the old saying goes, hindsight is 20/20! It was rainy here today so I did major housecleaning.

Several of my SparkFriends (from US, Canada, England and other locations) will be going on to a Australian food/exercise/health tracking site called fatsecret.com. Apparently there is an option for groups/teams there, and one Sparker has started a group called Sparkle and Shine. I will be checking out that site. I mostly do my tracking on the WW site, but I like the groups and support here on SP

I visit facebook almost every day and I am very guarded. It allows me to keep in touch with family and friends. They don't post every day either. They also have quick little tutorials that I waste a lot of time on.
Jane all I do is wish you that your urologist can help you
How nice to go to a graduation
Both my grandson's like to fish. I used to take my 20 something fishing when he was young. Children didn't need a license I am hoping my 14 year old will visit in a few years and I will take him fishing. MY RULE EAT IT OR THROW IT BACK There is a big cray fishing industry here.
All dust is dangerous so sad it has affected you Alison. We were talking about this at lunch today

Brenda, some places may not need licenses and others do. I think it does depend on what is fished for. Depletion of our water sources need to be protected and licensees can help with that.
Commercial fishing is another matter. Most countries claim the ocean areas around their countries for 3 to 12 miles.
Guam has a lot of people who are vaccinated and hopefully will have 70% or more by July 21st. As this is done things are opening up and I am more comfortable going places.

Alison, the Bible does speak of us having faith as a child.
I have known Judy since I first arrived on Guam. We took a class at the college. Her parents came out here to teach when she was a girl, settled in Inarajan where she met her future husband and has never left the village to live elsewhere except perhaps for schooling.
I do not know what the doctors will decide. The urologist will send the information to the cancer doctor of whom I have an appointment July 1st.
I am sorry you asthma is acting up and that it was caused by the smoke from the bark dust and smoke.

I went to the graduation of three students today that graduated from our church’s school. The Valedictorian is a 16 year old who is a church member and a very sweet young man.
It was a good day.

Brenda I thought it was a real sculpture also, on a huge scale in a park somewhere. Your trip sounds wonderful, very fun excursion.

Jane I liked your point about trusting in God, like a child's faith. Like you I want to keep in touch after this site closes. Facebook doesn't seem to be an option -- but we could do a closed group where the posts aren't visible. Not sure how much participation there would be (I'm not terribly active on Facebook either, and I don't share a lot of personal information about struggles and challenges or my weight loss journey). I have not had success with Google groups. So the most likely option will be e-mail exchanges. I'll post something on the message feed later for anyone that may want to keep in touch.

I looked on the web for Judy Flores in Guam, her work is amazing. Love the color and life and design of her batiks. How nice that you are exposing your granddaughter to more art!

I am very sorry to hear that your tests showed some patches of redness. Will you have to continue the chemo, or is there a point where they try something different?

I went for another nice hike today with my friend. My asthma has been bothering me since I spread the bark dust and got exposed to the smoke, so I am taking medication. The medication helps but it is not instantaneous, and I have to be patient.

Thanks for the link I thought it was real, how clever
We do not fish but I have been told you don't need a license to fish. On my daughters side her grandparents were commercial fishers and cousins too. It seems one of those occupations that run in families. Sad now it is too difficult to make a living.
The trip leaves at 8 am and returns about 5pm. The islands are 50 miles off shore. We have been wanting to do it for years. You can also do a plane trip. Few people live on the islands. They are trying to make it into an expensive resort
Good you are getting out more and hope it continues. I enjoy doing stuff with me grandchildren but we live far apart

Brenda, glad your daughter’s stitches are out and she is clear.
Glad you will be able to attend some more art workshops.
How exciting to be able to go on a boat trip. How many hours will it be?
That picture is beautiful!
The companies seem to make it more and more difficult to just count steps which is terrible.

Alison, I am interested in keeping in contact with the members of this group.
I remember giving information about Belgium and even a hotel to one of the members years ago. That was fun.
I have never made banana pancakes but think they would be delicious.
Glad you were able to go on a longish hike with your friend.
Sorry about the computer updates you need to keep your phone active.
I have a pedometer so really low tech. Sorry about canceling the picnic lunch group but glad you got rain.
Yes, housework does seem to take longer as we get older.
I like the title of the digital art. Children are so trusting. We need to be more like them in trusting God.

I saw the urologist this morning. Lab work was great but she found some red areas in the bladder. There is some scaring at the mouth of the bladder and ureatha which I suspected. I was so hoping everything would be clear so I would not need anymore chemo.
I am making arrangements with my youngest granddaughter to take her with me to a batik class in the next few months. She likes to draw so I am hoping to introduce here to other art forms.
You can google the artist, Judy Flores, she does beautiful work.
There is an art exhibit of local artist going on now and I hope to take both girls to that next week.
I am starting to go out a little more.

Brenda I have been to Portland many times and have never seen the amazing sculpture. I did search on line and learned it is digital art by an artist named Chad Knight. I thought when I first saw it that it was a real sculpture or art installation. Here is a link to a site with more of his work, I like much of his work but some is very alien and strange.

The title of the digital art in your post is "Faith Without Works is Dead".

My whole morning was spent doing computer updates. My Dell laptop, then the IPhone, then the Apple Watch. And the Apple watch wouldn't download the update and then it crashed entirely. I'm taking it in to the tech support shop on Saturday. I originally only wanted to count steps, but I grew to love the other features on the watch. We rely so much on technology!

I know some of you have been to Portland this is from facebook. So spectacular.
I use ripe bananas to make a smoothie drink milk, banana and maple syrup probably lot of calories but I use this as a whole meal.
My cousin is on holidays and when he turned his computer on he had a 3 hour update. My daughter gave me her Garmin watch as she changed her tablet to an apple then needed to get an apple watch. I just want to count steps.

If anyone is interested in continuing in touch through e-mail chat (after SP shuts down), please send me your e-mail address to me via SparkMail. We can continue to motivate and inspire each other to stay healthy and active, and share travel adventures.

Brenda the trip looks delightful, I had never heard of the Abrolohosa Islands. Do SIL, DD (or you) enjoy fishing? Or are you going for the sightseeing? Nice that your daughterr got her stitches removed and she is cleared to drive. Nice that you got more work done on your basket and that more people have joined the group.

Jane very nice that you got bananas at a bargain price and are sharing them. I love bananas; and I have been making banana pancakes with the over-ripe ones.

Leona and Mommy445 always nice to hear from you.

I went on a very nice longish hike with my friend Hanne yesterday. This morning I am dealing with computer updates, which is never fun. To update my AppleWatch I had to unpair it from the phone, then pair it again ... and the update is estimated to take three hours to install features that I don't even want! (I have to update it for it to continue to be paired to my phone). Oh well by the end of the this morning everything should by synched and working again. My regular Wednesday picnic lunch group has been canceled because of rain. I'll be cleaning the house, which seems to take longer and longer as I continue doing it.

Brenda, we have a few weeks to figure out what we are going to do.
Hang in there.

Leona, sorry we have not gotten to know you. If we set up an e-mail chat are you interested?

Mommy, hope all is well with you.

I went shopping for groceries this morning, taking Sam as she is not driving yet. We went to the market she usually shops at and because I am not familiar with it it took over an hour.
I picked up a case of very ripe bananas and took them with me to church this evening to share with the church family, especially those who bake. The market is getting rid of the bananas before they are not edible so they were $10. for a case. They do this often.
Wrapping my head around loosing things with SP but God is still on His throne so will carry me through.

Brenda, glad you were able to attend the event. Sorry it was so cold but glad it did not rain.

Alison, I am hesitant to join an FB group that is open to all. I have shared things on SP that I do not want my family in the states and nosey friends to know. Most do not know I have been struggling with bladder cancer for a few years.

Do you want to make up a list of e-mail addresses from those of us who are active on this team?
I am doing that for the Grandmother’s Fitness Club of which I am one of the leaders.

I went to lunch with the Tuesday Lunch Bunch and afterwards we went to an art exhibit of local artist. One of our ladies has a few photos she displayed.

Hope all is well even with the shakeup.

Brenda, thank you for the picture of the Dragonfruit in bloom.

Ameena, yes, I am thankful that the man managed to step back. One more forward and he would have collided with my car.

Alison, being able to hike and then do a picture of the river is wonderful.
Glad you got the bark mulch spread before anything disastrous happened. Watering it down would have been a second choice.
I am like you with many SparkFriends from all over the world.

Like many active Spark community members I am very sorry to hear the site is shutting down. This really has been an active and supportive community. I will stay participating until the end. None of us really knows what the new platform will look like. Many of my closest Sparkfriends are not in the US.

Ameena great to hear from you, and thanks for sharing the news.

Brenda and Jane, Thanks for sharing the photos of the dragon fruit. Amazing interesting plant!

Jane I am so glad you are okay. Very scary experience.

The painting is of a scene along the Metolius River in the Cascade Mountains, I hiked there last week.

I finished spreading the bark mulch, I had to work very hard to complete it much faster than planned. I started to spread mulch early this morning, and realized the mulch pile hot and starting to smoke a bit. I worried about spontaneous combustion if I let it sit. So I managed to get it all spread and safe, but I am exhausted after all those wheelbarrow loads piled high, dumped, and raked.

Good day my friends!

Jane, oh my goodness I'm so relieved to hear that you were not in an accident. That sounded extremely scary. I hope you're ok.

Brenda and Alison, your talent is astounding. I wish I had both your creativity.

I'm not sure if you all were aware of this but sadly Sparkpeople is closing down as of August 17 2021. I included the link below for all of you.

Alison, I like your painting. Is it of a river or stream near you?
The Dragon Fruit is from a cactus. I will try to put up a picture I got off the internet as I do not have a camera.
A picnic along a river and music sounds fun.

Brenda, the public transportation on Guam stinks and that is a nice word.
I have had the Dragon Fruit cactus for many years but only had it fruit a few times in the last few years. I had no idea it was a Dragon Fruit until the fruit bore.

I had a very big scare and a PTL because of it. I was driving home from church on our main drive today when this guy starts running out in front of me. He dashed out from between cars which were stopped because they were waiting to turn left and if he had not jumped back we would have collided. I was speeding up to the proper speed for that area and am so thankful there was not an accident.
Church was good and I did stop at a restaurant that has just reopened because a car smashed into it a couple of months ago. The food is great as it is a combination of Chinese and local.

I like your painting. You did the water well. Shadows and light from overhead trees are difficult. I did a similar one in black and white with a red figure. I plan to do a multi color one from a magazine photo.
We followed a Barbowens youtube tutorial yesterday. Not a style we liked but interesting. One of our group uses her style to great effect.
Jane nice to get more Avocado. I have a dragonfruit growing but never any fruit. It does fruit here. Do hope your GD can get her driver's license sometime it is so useful. Is public transport okay in Guam?

I finished my painting, it is not perfect but I enjoyed doing it

And I got the outdoor furniture put back into its original locations. I’m still working on spreading the bark dust, but I have made significant progress and think I will be finished in another week.

Jane how nice that you visited your son and GD. It is wonderful that you have fresh avocados again, and homemade gooseberry jam. I have never eaten dragon fruit, but I have seen the fruit in the stores. So exotic looking! I hope you get some fruit on your trees.

Today I worked in the yard before breakfast, had a zoom weight watcher meeting, and I am leaving to join a friend for a picnic along the river and to play music.

Brenda, the video explains the diamond dot art easily. Thank you for sharing it.
Nice that you went shopping with your daughter.
The hens must love you for giving them greens.
Nice to have a holiday commemorating the founding of the community.

Alison, I am glad to hear that some counties have few cases and Deschutes County is one of them. Sorry some counties are resisting getting the covid shot.
Sorry about so many desserts for the book club.
If it does not rain getting the patio furniture put away is not a big necessity.
Hope the painting turns out better than you expect.

My son called and said they had more avocados for me and suggested I visit my youngest granddaughter today. I went over around noon and stayed awhile. Her mom was there too so we had a nice chat. Although she is18 she has not gotten a license so does not drive yet so does not get with her friends much. She is asthmatic so the family has kept her safe during the pandemic. She has made some gooseberry jam and I brought some home.
I had at least 10 bossoms on my Dragon Fruit plant a couple of days ago and saw bees around the blossoms yesterday. These bees are much smaller than the ones I grew up with in Oregon. I hope I get some fruit.

Stay safe and well everyone.

Jane glad you were able to regain your place in line at the lab. And that it was a quick process once you returned with the necessary sample. The COVID numbers are down for the state, and down in Deschutes County. However it is almost like there are two states; the counties where the population has resisted getting vaccinated still have the virus raging. Crook Count to our east (Prineville) and Jefferson County to the north (Madras) are both at the extreme risk level.

I realized that the menu at my book club was unbalanced. I planned to provided appetizers and beverages because we were meeting in the late afternoon. Apparently all my guests had the same idea -- they each brought a dessert! Six desserts for 8 people.

I worked on my yard before breakfast, then finished cleaning up after book club (I took in all the dirty dishes, but I did not move the patio furniture back, or dismantle the card tables, until today). I started another pastel painting but I don't think I like it very much. I'll wait until it's finished to decide.

Brenda, yes, I got yesterdays sorted.
Lovely picture! Are those beads you put on the picture?

Alison, glad you enjoyed the get together with your book club friends.
Great the covid numbers are down. Is that for Bend and area or the whole state?

This morning started out very early because I woke up before the alarm went off and could not go back to bed or sleep. I arrived at the Lab to find I was number 5 in line. After entering the lab I realized I had left my lab paper at home. Went home, got the paper and returned. The lady who was at the door and would go in next remembered that I had already been there and me go in. The nurse doing the intake said I could use the ticket I had gotten earlier so when she was finished with the person she was helping she took me filled out the papers needed and confirmed the cup was in the box they use so I was out within ten minutes. I think next time I will put the lab paper in the car the night before. Crazy morning.
I have done some cleaning up around the house today but not much else.

Brenda I love your beautiful diamond dot art piece. I enjoy doing smaller sized art pieces like cards. I probably should have taken a photo of the disaster area in my yard before I spread wood chips all over it! But I will post a photo of the finished project.

Jane sorry you had to make two trips for the supplies for the lab test. I agree, much nicer to do the urine sample at home. Glad you are enjoying Downtown Abbey, I've only watched a bit of it. It was very well done.

My book club hosting was fun, so nice to see everyone in person instead of on a Zoom call. Our COVID numbers are greatly improved; I hope the past holiday weekend doesn't lead to another spike of cases.

Jane never ending small problems, anyhow you got it sorted

I bought these diamond dot embroidery cards on line and put the dots on today at "Chat n Do" today for my friends birthday. Some of the ladies do big pictures but they were impressed
Haven't watched Downton Abby but it was very popular in AU
Looking forward to seeing your finished woodchip project

Brenda, I remember weaving a basket out of, I think, willow when at Girl Scout Camp when I was a girl.
Looking forward to your photo.

Alison, 97° in early June is hot! No more wild fires that are destroying our forests. Good that you have been doing the chip moving in the morning.
Washing the pollen off the roof is good but sorry you have to wash things down again.

I checked the lab papers before going to bed and then check the cup I had picked up before for urine test. The clinic I had gotten it from had their ID on it so had to get a cup this morning for a different clinic. I will take it in tomorrow. Much easier and cleaner to get the sample at home.
I have not done much else today but have started watching Downton Abbey which is quite interesting. I watch it on Netflix.

Jane I hope your lab tests go smoothly and that you have more energy.

Brenda I have been moving the wood chips in the morning before breakfast. But I will take a day off tomorrow because my shoulders are a little sore. We had record-breaking heat today, over 97°. Thunder and lightning tonight, I hope the lightening strikes don’t set too many wildfires. We can’t take another wildfire season like last year!

I can’t wait to see your baskets Brenda! You do so many creative activities, I am impressed!

Well I am going back to finishing cleaning the house for my book club tomorrow. And finishing preparing the food. I washed all the outdoor furniture and the porches, but I may have to do it again tomorrow after the rain. The rain tends to wash all the pollen off the roof.

Brenda Glad that your daughters arm is improving and that she will be getting the cast off. Thanks for describing your bathroom. Sounds like you really improved it!

Jane it is so nice that you are taking your friend to the lunch group. I am glad that she is improving, and that she is getting physical therapy. Will she be able to drive once she is completely healed? Is Uber or Lyft available in Guam? It has been a very handy option for my friend who is legally blind. We are all willing to drive her, but sometimes her appointments are at inconvenient times, or she wants to maintain her independence.

It is very hot here today, 94°F (34.5 C). I spread bark chips in the morning and did a few yard chores; this afternoon I am cleaning the house. And in evening I will clean my porch furniture. My book club is coming over to my house on Thursday, and it is a good inspiration to get my outdoor furniture clean. I’ll go grocery shopping early tomorrow morning. We have switched our book club to just provide appetizers, and meet at an earlier hour in the late afternoon. I think that is much easier on the host. And it makes it easier to plan to eat outdoors.

It a little hard to describe previously we had an outhouse. The bathroom was too small for the actual toilet pan and cistern so I build a room like a cubical it had a concrete tiled floor it was about 6 feet by 4 feet not quite an extension sort of a lean to with a low plastic roof not lined to allow light to replace the window. The walls were lined but because they were exposed it was cold in the winter. There was also a glass door to replace the window I closed to keep the room warm when I used it as a bathroom, it only had a shower. I almost never use a bath and don't have a bath here just a big shower. Most other places had both a bath and separate shower. Hope you can make sense of this.
Wow a lot of flags.
When I was younger I moved wood chips but still a lot of work
Glad your friend is improving and good you are able to help.

Brenda, your streets/roads sound like those here with pot holes where there should not be any.
It is hard to remember that Christmas is in the summer for you.
I have not gotten a flu shot this year as I am not around others very much.
The room for your toilet sounds almost like an outhouse…

Alison, yes the photo of the flags is impressive. There are 3,000 flags, mainly US ones but also the Guam flags in commemoration of the Chamorros who died during the WWII occupation.
Yes, being underweight can be as harmful as overweight. It is just fewer people are that way. Glad the two of you had a nice hike.
Wow, that was a big load of chips! Do be careful.

I had lunch with the Tuesday Lunch Bunch today. One of our group is leaving next Tuesday morning for the states and will be back in August.
I will pick up Sam as long as she needs me to. Her arm is so much better but she still cannot straighten it out completely. She is in therapy.
Tomorrow we will go grocery shopping together. I will go to the grocery nearer her home. Same company, different village.
Not sure what will happen when the other lady goes stateside as she will be picking up the other one who does not drive.

Stay well and safe.

I hope you are able to travel Brenda. Jane I'm like you, I'm not sure about traveling internationally. The photo of the rain was impressive, I would not want to try driving a car across a flooded street. Brenda I can't visualize your bathroom/toilet room; is the toilet in a separate cubicle? or is it partially outdoor?

Jane the photo you posted of the lighted flags at the cemetery was very moving.

I went for a nice hike with a friend yesterday. She has the opposite problem with her weight, she is worried about losing weight; she looks extremely thin. She has osteoporosis but she was a competitive bicycle racer in her past.

I've been moving the bark chips but not at a very fast pace, I can do 7-8 wheelbarrow loads each day and spread them out. Much more than that would not be good for my back. So it will probably take me at least a month to completely move the whole pile.

Yes despite constant warning people will still drive in flood waters. The water isn't very deep but sometimes big holes lurk.
I try and go in off season. Spring weather can be very changeable. Winter in Canberra can be very cold. Most years it snows. I hope to be back for Christmas.
Busy day for me took my daughter to library then lunch and 3 o'clock to doctor for regular flu injection.
In cold weather I usually get up and I am warm in bed. I don't mind in warm weather but when it is cold it is disturbing. In one of my houses we got sewer so I took out bathroom window and added small room for actual toilet and that room was very cold being exposed on 3 sides

Brenda, is the street flooded? Is that a car trying to come down the street? What a mess.
October is your spring, correct? Hope you can go. I hesitate going to the states in October because it is our fall and I do not want to run into cold weather.

I have not done much today and did take a short nap but set the alarm so it was a short one.
I woke five times last night because I could not hold anymore in my bladder. uuuugghh!

I agree age increases sleep problems. Some days like today I did almost nothing. There were sun showers all day. Very few days I am active but it is a good feeling to be tired from activity.

From facebook don't know where but nearby. Most of the area near the ocean is flat
In AU we mostly need rain for our farmers, it tend to be a dry country, particularly in the west. Rain can be a nuisance, so often like your festivities get interrupted.
In AU people are also visiting interstate. I am still hoping for October

Brenda, sorry about the rain.
A passionfruit cake sounds delicious!
I think part of our sleeping problems is age.

Alison, I hope the dental device allows you to sleep longer each night.
Is the South Sister the talest? I know when I was a girl the Three Sisters were called Faith, Hope and Charity.
You have your work cut out for you moving all those woodchips.

I went to church this morning and found out several people will be going stateside for awhile this summer. Our governor is not lifting restrictions and I do not want to be stuck in a hotel upon returning home.
I went to Asan park to see the flags this evening. I got there just after sundown but still light planning to stay until after dark but my bladder had other ideas. I left and went to a near by store and used the toilet, picked up a new face mask and went back to the park. Got settled in saw the lights on the flags and then it started to rain so I came home. I had taken a folding chair to sit in so could have stayed longer but getting drenched is not what I wanted.

Hope all is well with everyone.

I have trouble sleeping also. I try get at least 7 hours a night, but usually only reach that goal 2-3 nights a week. I hope when I get the sleep apnea dental device I won't wake up as frequently.

Brenda the passionfruit cake sounds wonderful, how nice to have home baked treats.

Jane the mountain behind me in my profile photo is South Sister; photo was taken at Sparks Lake (appropriate name for a profile photo on SparkPeople!)

My friend Tony is delivering a truckload of wood chips, I will use it to cover up the badly landscaped portion of my yard. The ugly section of the yard is where roots had gotten into the septic system, and all the invasive bushes had to be removed. Unfortunately the contractor left a lot of exposed roots and stumps, I'll just have to move the wood chips one wheelbarrow at a time.

Rained most of the day so I did little. My daughter had visitors so she made a passionfruit cake she brought me two slices. I had contributed the fruit and milk. and instructions to only eat one slice today and the other tomorrow. Very nice
I have not been sleeping properly. I try to go to bed about 10.30 and get up 7.30. I got bitten a few weeks ago then had an infected toe this interrupted my sleep pattern. A nap in the afternoon is okay

Brenda, yes, the cube is roomy and I think cute.
Sorry to hear about the flood warnings. No fun.
I understand about not doing the wash due to rain.
An orange poppy cake sounds great.

Alison, yes, Japan stopped sending the Cube to the states and Guam about the same time.
I gave up line drying years ago. Too often my clothes would almost get dry and then there would be a cloud burst. Have that happen often enough and no one has anything to wear.
I had never though about pollen clinging to clothes off the clothes line.
How nice that your friends family sent you Lebanese cookies from Portland. One of the nice things about a big city. You are brave to save the cookies for the book club.
Which mountain is behind you in your picture?

I have not done much today. I need to get my sleep time straightened out. I wake up too much at night and sometimes have trouble going back to sleep and then sleep away the afternoon.

I still see the Cube here on the roads occasionally, but Nissan stopped selling it in North America in 2014.

Brenda glad you got the poppy seed orange cake, sounds delicious. I mostly follow my diet, but every now and then I crave cake. We all need an occasional treat.

Jane I am amazed at how laundry multiplies. Brenda I prefer line drying my laundry also, and I can finally do it again. (I dry it indoors during the pollen season so I don't sneeze when I put on my clean clothes)

I went on a nice hike with my friend at Smith Rock State Park, it was quite busy because of the holiday weekend, but such a beautiful hike. Her son and DIL in Portland sent her cookies to give to me, because for some reason I told them about Lebanese cookies my grandmother used to bake (I think they were telling me about a Middle Eastern bakery that had opened in their neighborhood). Anyway what a thoughtful gesture! My friend and I each ate a cookie, and I am freezing the rest of them for my book club next week.

Jane I know you have mentioned your Cube but I just looked it up. Seems they were also sold in AU. Many times the same car has a different name. Looks very cute and roomy for it size
Flood warning just minor over the next few days.
I didn't wash due to rain. Tomorrow. I do have a dryer if needed.
Went to the store and they had a small Poppy and orange cake reduced to $1.60 so I bought it for us. Not on any of our diets but enjoyable.

Brenda, I am going to pass your “blood and bone” tip onto another team that some of the members have been having rabbit problems.
Sorry the possums messed up your friend’s fountain.

Alison, sorry the pond you have does not meet the code. Hope you can figure out a detraction to the critters eating your veggies.
Yes, my Cube is great. The sad part is although Nissan Japan still makes the car they will not ship it to Guam so I will need to get something else when it is time.

I got three loads of wash done today.

I love having the birds visit the water feature, and I also enjoy watching chipmunks and squirrels come by to drink. No raccoons or skunks so far. The prior owner put in a small pond at the bottom of a lava hill, but there was no pump or filter so mosquitos laid their larvae. I had a landscaper add the waterfall, pump and filter (mosquitoes don't lay their eggs in running water), it worked for years. But apparently it was not installed to code and is impossible to repair without ripping it out and rebuilding something a lot more expensive. My mom had a really nice small self contained fountain, you filled it with water, plugged it in, and it attracted hummingbirds. I certainly would not the experience your friend had with the raccoons using the bottom portion as a toilet!

My vegetables are in containers on the porch so I haven't tried any of the critter repellents that are placed in the surrounding dirt. But maybe I should try them.

Brenda hope your Chat n' Do was fun.

Jane I think the cube car sounds perfect.

Alison lot of work, here is my fountain tale. A friend had a 3 level plus cherub that spouted water. The possums stood on the middle level drank from the top and toileted in the bottom and their mess fouled the pump. A friend believes a water feature is essential in a garden. I thought they might be Lupines. Another tip to keep rabbits from garden put "blood and bone" about they don't like smell. What a pest to be without your computer we do become dependent.

Brenda, sorry you missed the eclipse. I checked a map and Brisbane is east of Guam and may be in a different time zone.
I am really glad your daughter is safely home.

Alison, sorry your computer needed to go to the repair shop.
Thank you about my car. The main reason I bought the Cube was because of the seats and accessibility for me.
Doing your own landscaping can be a challenge but also fun. Hope you get the pond fixed. Sorry the chipmunks ate your plants. They can be real pests. Can you put something around the pots to keep them out?

My son posted the moon from Houston. He feels a lot of the red was from pollution.
I closed out a bank account I have had for years. I have not used it much recently but it was one place I could pay my Solid Waste bill. I can do it on line now. One of the advantages of the pandemic is most places are willing to make payments on line.

Stay safe and well.

Sorry to be offline for a few days. My computer crashed and had to go into the shop. It is probably nearing the end of its normal years of use, but I took it to the repair shop instead of replacing it.

Benda the tall spiky flowers in the photo are lupine. The commercial varieties come in pinks and blues and lavender; but when they grow wild here in Oregon they are blue and not as tall. I am so glad that your daughter is back home, and that her operation was successful. It is too bad that the sky wasn't clear for the eclipse.

Jane glad that your shoulder and back are less painful. Nice that you were able to see the eclipse! Good that you were able to take your friend in to lunch, and that your car is easy for both of you to get into and exit.

Ameena so nice to hear from you.

I got a bid from a landscaper, I was inspired by the beautiful gardens I toured. I was shocked by the price he quoted. So I decided that I would deal with one of the big problems myself (my little pond and water feature is leaking). I drained the pond by hauling buckets of water, and I am replacing it with a self contained water fountain unit. But for now there are a LOT of rocks in the former pond and waterfall that need to be relocated. I planted my vegetable garden in pots on my front porch, and chipmunks ate ALL of the lettuces and most of the herbs within two days. They ate the parsley and basil, but they left the chives and thyme. I will miss my fresh lettuces!

Very cool and sad bad weather forecast. Very big bright moon with clear skies tonight hope it stays so I can see blood moon. Much further south a dusting of snow. Early to bed for me tonight!
I visit the Chiropractor about once a month and find it helps. Good you are still feeling okay.
Nice your friend can go with you and able to get in and out of car. I find going down stairs difficult and uneven ground. I use my cane to help. Is Guam hilly? The west coast is quite flat and mostly arid not like Cains which is beautiful with green rainforest

Your plants and pots sound delightful.

I am feeling much better with little to no pain! I am cutting back on my chiropractic appointments to once a month with the understanding that I can go in if things flare up.
I took my friend Sam to our Tuesday lunch today. My Nissan Cube has high seats that are easy to sit and swing our legs into and then do the same getting out. Sam is doing well with the cane but needs places that do not have steps which can be a challenge. I also told here that I was willing to take her to appointments if she needed help.

Stay safe everyone.

Jane glad you are feeling better. It is raining so hope cloud doesn't obscure moon.
This is a fabulous group as we share information
Ameena nice you can keep in touch when ever possible.

Repaired a wooden imitation half wine barrel plant pot. Put my Aspidistra (Cast iron) hope it is happier. Daughter bought pots 5 years ago so hoping to get a few more years with the repairs.

Brenda, since you are an two hours behind Guam you should be able to see the total eclipse after eleven in the evening, Wednesday. I checked Perths time now and it is four in the afternoon and six here in Guam.

Ameena, from what I understand Guam will see a total eclipse of the moon but with a ring of light around it because the moon is very close to the earth so the shadow of the earth will be in the center of the moon. Kind of neat.

Alison, love the picture of the Iris garden and what you did on your mini vacation.

I am feeling better today. Not sure what triggered the back and shoulder problems.

Hello everyone!

Jane, I hope you feel better soon. Brenda, you have me looking up the Blood Moon. Brenda do you knit?

Alison, it's nice to read of your vacation and lovely to see family was able to come for a visit.

I won't be able to post often but you're all in my prayers and thoughts. I have a lot on my mind lately but I'll be ok.

Love you all!

Love Iris what are the tall flowers?
My mantra that I don't always remember "Only the tough get old"
I also googled the blood moon for Perth. We had one last month but it didn't rise till late so I missed it. Just after 7pm 26th this month

Sorry you both have trouble getting in and out of cars. When my arthritis is bad, it is difficult for me also sometimes.

Brenda I hope SIL can get the app fixed, it would be nice for her to be able to read magazines. I hope your spinach recovers from the hens!!! Great that you have passionfruit.

Jane the blood moon sounds so interesting, I was not familiar with the phenomenon. Nice that Guam will have such a view. I had heard about the passion flower, but I enjoyed reading about the meaning again. Nature is beautiful, and also provides many parables. Glad your knee is doing a bit better.

I am slowly getting caught up and have bit more energy. Thought you might enjoy a photo from the iris garden that I visited. We don't get such a profusion of flowers and colors here in the high desert.

My SIL is taking time from work. They will go Sunday and stay an extra day just in case and plan to return Wednesday. She wants me to take her to the Library Friday to get their help with her App that she uses to download magazines THEY RECENTLY CHANGED IT.

My SIL let the hens out into the garden and they immediately pruned my spinach. I think it will be okay. We have some Hibiscus the branches almost touch the ground and they love to scratch under them in the leaf litter.
Looked up the Moon hope I remember to got outside that night

Never thought about Passionfruit but like everything so interesting. I grow the thick skin yellow variety. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora_e

Brenda, high cars and trucks can be a bear as well as cars that are really low. I had a Nissan Sentra for years but the last few years it was difficult getting in and out of. My Nissan Cube has a high seat that I can sit and then swing my legs in. I also push the seat back to get in and out of and yes, I use the cruise control as much as possible.
I take it you went out for lunch before shopping and the did some gardening. You were busy.
Do you know the story behind the Passionfruit Flower? You may want to google it.
I hope your daughter’s surgery goes well and she does not have to drive herself home.
Sounds like you have made good use of your avocados.

Alison, welcome back and glad you had a great vacation and visit with your sister and niece.
Great you had some rain.

Guam is going to have a total eclipse of the moon Wednesday night. It will be what they call a blood moon because the moon will be close enough to the earth that the shadow will be in the center but there will be a ring around the outer edges. I just called my grand girls and told one of them about it.
I walked around the cul-de-sac three times this evening and have not taken any pain medication for three days!

Take care and be safe.

Greetings everyone! Sorry I was not able to chat on the forum. I had a great mini-vacation, then my sister and niece were visiting me. The flower gardens at the iris gardens and at the Oregon garden were spectacular. Pam (sister) and I did lots of hiking. My family left yesterday, and I am really tired. It turned cold yesterday, and I am grateful we have some rain (we are in a long term drought)

I'll post more later but for now:

Jane sorry to hear about your friend's infection.

Brenda hope your daughter's surgery goes smoothly.

Ameena and Leona, good to hear from you.

I find many cars difficult getting in and out. My daughter has a high car. About 2 years ago I used my Canberra daughter's car and it gave me a sore back, I needed to stretch to reach the accelerator. I also had a small car that I loved but on a long trip it became uncomfortable. After I bought a bigger car with cruise control that meant I could move my foot about, not needing to always press the accelerator. I also have a problem if I cannot get the door fully open. I do have a disability permit I've had it for about a year.
I enjoyed lunch today, then bought groceries. I did some work on the garden prepared for my new Passionfruit plants.
No plans for the weekend my daughter is going to Perth early Sunday for her shoulder operation and expects to be home Wednesday
I used one Avocado with Yogurt and cream cheese for a dip (Guacamole) for our afternoon snack the other I will spread on toast tomorrow. I also like them with chicken

Brenda, I am not sure if Sam would have gone to the doctor if her son’s friend had not come to water blast her house. I would have taken her but she has not gotten the realization that my car is easy to get in and out of but I am not sure how much I could help her otherwise as I use a cane.
What did you make using the avocados?
Nice that the garden club has started meetings. I hope they will continue.
I am sorry to hear about your friend’s husband. He is safer there but it must be hard.
No plans for the weekend except church on Sunday.

I have not done much today. Need to get out of this slump.

Lucky your friend pursued her injury but sad they found an infection at least they were able to start treatment.

I bought 2 avocado fruit today. I went to garden club and one of the ladies wanted to buy a tree I told her where to buy them hope they have some still. I will take her some geranium cuttings soon. Part of garden club is sharing cuttings .And I succumbed to temptation and bought a rescue indoor plant $10 and some parsley plants. Another lady has put her 86 year old husband into care due to his dementia and is struggling as he is not happy. He has broken 3 TV at the care home and she has had to pay for them. Due to COVID and the cyclone this is only our second meeting this year but hope to do it regularly each month.

Nice you were able to visit your family today. Being able to hug again is good.

Any plans for the weekend?

Brenda, great you got your hair cut and colored.
Nice to be able to talk to people. Interesting naming her walker. I do not use my walker anymore that necessary but will when needed.
Wonderful that a friend visited and brought you a lemon tart.

My friend Sam got to the doctor today and they took four x-rays of her arm. A young man who has been a friend of her son’s for years came to water blast the roof and took her in. She broke her elbow awhile back and the doctor saw the pins. Above the pins they saw signs of an infection so now she is on an antibiotic. She had had another rough night but the day was better. Hopefully she will sleep tonight.
I called my son this morning about him bringing me some avocados. He said to come over and get them. I thought I would go in the afternoon but awhile later he called and asked when I was coming. I said I would be right over. Spent a few hours with them and got a hug from my granddaughters when I left. It was great to get the hug.
This evening I went to church and heard a good sermon about soul winning.

Stay safe.

At least the car wasn't expensive.
Seems too long for your friend's arm to mend and further examination might uncover something. Might need something as simple as an injection.
Got my hair cut and colored just a rinse out one not permanent. Made me feel good. My mother used to get her hair set and styled almost every week. While I was browsing in a store a lady came up and spoke complimenting me. She had lost a lot of her hair through cancer treatment and 22kg, over 12 months ago, she also need to use a walker due to fear of falling. Her husband joined us and we enjoyed a nice chat so a very pleasant day for me. She calls her walker "Johnny Walker" after the drink. Upon re-telling my daughter thinks I should give mine a name
Like you I came home and didn't do much a friend visited bringing a small lemon tart

Brenda, if the hens are pets so the eggs are a bonus, then great.
You might make a baking soda paste and put it on the bite.
I agree about the government wasting our money instead of using it wisely.

This morning I got my car checked and the clamps holding the “pan” under the car put back as well as the pump for my windshield wiper put in. The cost was $68.43 for the labor as I had already paid for the pump.
I was to take my friend Sam to Pieology for lunch with our Tuesday group but she called and said she was not able to go because of the pain in her arm that had kept her awake most of the night. We are hoping she will get the arm x-rayed again as it does not seem to be healing as it should. It has been six weeks and still swollen with trouble moving it.
There were four of us that had pizza together.
I came home and have not done much else. Part of the problem is the rain which comes unexpectedly.

The eggs cost more from the hens than to buy but the pet value makes up. Only hens
Don't know what bit me think i was a spider
Do hope you are able to negotiate something about your shot such a lot of money. More money need for your car.
I get very angry how the government wastes our money. One thing is the way good buildings are simply abandoned to rot, millions of dollars wasted. They know they are leaving and have plenty of time to plan for their future use which might include selling.

Brenda, good to stock up on batteries.
The doctor felt it is just part of the aging process.
Hen duty sounds fun. I take it you do not have roosters. Do you get a lot of eggs?
We do not have public gardens here.
I am not comfortable driving stateside so go with family and friend where they want to go. I hope you save money by buying a car and then reselling it.
Sorry about the hot flashes. One of my friend has had them for years as her mother did. Hope they pass soon.
Your paint brush container looks lovely.
Pumpkin and apple soup sounds interesting.

Ameena, I agree, the government wants our money but not necessarily uses it wisely.
Good to hear from you.

Today I got my last shot in the knee. Still having trouble with the insurance company. They have denied payment for these shots that they had told the clinic they would pay for. If I have to pay it will be over $3,000. which makes me angry.
I need to have my car checked for something that is loose under it. Also, the pump for the windshield wipers is in so will get that done at the same time.

Take care and stay well everyone.

Hello my friends,

I hope you all are well.

Jane, sorry to hear about your heart. Hopefully nothing too serious. I can't help but giggle when I read of your "drive-through" tax payment. It's great to notice no government had issues with tax season during this pandemic.....just with everything else.

Brenda, I hope you're feeling better post-vaccination. Reading about possums reminds me of the racoons and squirrel issues we used to have. Not fun. Have you worked on any art pieces lately?

Leona, how are you doing? Have you been able to vaccinated? How are you spending your days lately?

Alison, I hope you are enjoying your vacation!

Thank you all for the Eid wishes!

My daughter has gone away for the night so I am on hen duty. Need to get up early for their breakfast
I love Iris and have grown then many years ago. I also love public gardens and plan to visit a few when I go over east. When I lived there I visited a few and plan to re-visit them. I feel this maybe my last visit. I borrowed my daughter's car last time but plan on buying one to use while I am over there. I will resell it and hope that works out cheaper than hiring.

Brenda, I love diverse groups. I think that is why I like Guam so much.

Hope Alison is enjoying her mini vacation viewing the the Iris Gardens and what ever else her friend wants to do.

I saw the cardiologist this morning. He said my heart is slowing down which is normal as we grow older.
Had lunch at a Vietnamese Restaurant afterward.

This time will pass and then it will just be a bad memory.

Brenda, when no one is around what we wear is our business. My mailman brought me a big package and I was dressed decent but not what I would get into the car and go some place in.
I go in first thing in the morning to get my nails trimmed. I cannot cut them myself and have no one else to cut them.
My back and shoulders are better today. I have no idea what caused the discomfort yesterday.

Leona, reading the posts and sharing what you want is fine.
On this team I live on Guam, Brenda in Australia, Ameena in Canada and Alison in Oregon so we are all spread out. It makes some fun conversations.

I have not done much today but did get back to the bank that I dropped my checkbook at and picked it up.
I did get out and walked the cul-de-sac once today.

Stay safe.

I get up make my bed except sometimes like after my injection I was up 5 times so left it unmade. However if I am not going out I am often in my Pj's at 11am. My daughter find this unsatisfactory. My excuse is it is often cool in the mornings and I wait to get dressed in light weight clothes. Otherwise I need to dress again about noon.
I have a friend who wears a lot of black because it makes you look thinner and wears a bright scarf. It is rarely cold enough to need a scarf here but I often wear them.
I think it was one chimney but two fireplaces then one was closed leaving a hole, also a false decorative cover over the rough true chimney also with a gap.
Best wishes with your dental thing helping with your sleep.
I have not had my toes done since COVID something needed. Good for you getting through a lot of things. Good people are getting things setup to minimize contact. Sorry about the sore back can only hope it gets better soon.

Brenda, the beaver is a northern hemisphere animal. Interesting that the possum used the chimney to gain entrance to your ceiling area.
Bringing things from other areas can really cause problems. People often do not realize invasive species can damage the flora and fauna of the new area.
Yes, we are reliant on electricity and it is a luxury I do not want to be without.
I should pay more attention to my computer calendar as I would have realized that EID meant the ending of Ramadan. Hope Ameena joins us soon.

Alison, I am very casual around the house when I am not expecting anyone. I really like the scarf and plan to use it when I want to look dressy.
Not sure if I have ever seen a possum.
I hope the dental appliance works for you in regards to sleep apnea.
You have been busy.

This morning I got my toenails trimmed, stopped at the tax place and picked up my tax form, took it to Revenue and Tax to pay my 2010 taxes of $12.00 They had things set up outside so I could drive up to where the tarp was, roll down my window, someone came and took the papers and check, stamped everything and returned my copies. Done in five minutes without getting out of the car!
After this I went to a bank to close out my account as I have not really used the account for some time.
My back and shoulders hurt today. Not sure what is going on.

Stay safe.

Ameena happy Eid al Fitr, hope you are having a great day!

Jane glad the scarf goes with so many of your dresses. I do think it is nice to dress up a bit for church, of course I am watching video church so no one even knows if I am still in my pajamas!!! (I do get dressed but not quite as nicely as if the cameras were two-way)

Brenda the first time I saw a possum (in Portland, which has quite a few resident possums) I thought it was a giant rat. And when I heard one screeching I did not know what it was! I'm glad you got your fireplace blocked off. And REALLY glad you are recovering from the reaction to the vaccine.

I had a good day, I met friends in the park for a picnic, finally had an appointment to get fitted for the dental appliance for sleep apnea (I'll try it this weekend when I am home, I will have to be hooked up to the sleep monitor for two nights), gardened a bit, and I'm packing for my mini vacation. We leave tomorrow morning.

We don't have any of those animals. The equivalent would be Possums they are not much of a pest but can cause damage in roof areas. They were taken to New Zealand where they became a big problem with small animals, a new predator. I had one that lived in my roof very near my bed, I always worried they might fall through the ceiling. At one time a new possum moved in and there were territory wars. Eventually I blocked them out they were coming through the chimney. I had it taken down. We don't use open fires for heat now.
I am feeling much better still hot and cold chills. Plan to go to craft tomorrow.

Brenda, sorry about the reaction and yes some people seem to have a delayed one. Glad you are feeling better now.
I tend to dress casual except I do dress up a little for church. One nice thing about my new butterfly scarf is I can wear it with several dresses as they are relatively simple.
I take it you do not have squirrels or chipmunks in UA. I had not thought of that before. Animals that are around people a lot tend to ignore the people.

Alison, a beaver cutting down trees in your area! Wow!
A mini hike between appointments sounds great.
Your mini vacation sounds delightful. If Pat is driving then you can check out the sights.

I got my groceries early this morning, then picked up two sausage biscuits and a senior coffee at McDonalds and came home. I get just the sausage but not the egg or cheese.
I did make it to church this evening and enjoyed the preaching.
The area where my son’s ranch is is without water tonight until 5:30 tomorrow morning. One of my grands lives on the ranch with her BF and daughter. I called my son to let him know so he could call my grand as I do not have her number on my cell phone and I was on my way to church.

I have a busy day planned tomorrow.

Jane, glad your friend is doing better and able to serve herself food. And really glad that you got your taxes done, WOO HOO!

Brenda I'm sorry you had a reaction; glad you are feeling a bit better. We have pack rats too, along with squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, and marmots. All of them chewing away! My neighbor actually had beaver come up from the river and take down five young trees he had planted; it's quite a cliff down to the river where they use the wood for their dens.

I had a couple of medical appointments today, but in between I was able to go on a nice hike. We are going on another mini-vacation Wednesday and Thursday, to Schreiner's Iris gardens which should be in full bloom. On the second day we may visit the Oregon garden, or Pat and I may go on a hike instead. (Pat is driving this time, so I will do what she wants!)

During the night and today I had a reaction. Flu like symptoms pain everywhere and hot and cold. I was advised this might happen. Feeling a bit better now. Slept most of the afternoon.

We do dress casual now. When I was a child we had "out Sunday best" Great idea taking photos. We buy a cheap Tshirt and wear till a rag and something expensive we wear a few times. The Goodwill shops here are complaining about getting too many fancy clothes. They are urging people to NOT just wear something once.

We have a problems with rats chewing wiring. Never thought about Squirrels. When I went to Vancouver Squirrels were on the footpath and took no notice of pedestrians. So cute

Brenda, birds are smart when they use the chickens automatic feeders for their food and water. From what I remember of the Kookaburras their being messy does not surprise me.
I agree that the deaf languages vary from country to country and even within a country. I have checked ASL for signs and found that is not what is used here.
How wonderful that your daughter fixed you a special Mothers Day meal.
Another butterfly fan.

Alison, so sorry the squirrels messed up your wiring so you had to stop feeding the birds. I really enjoyed seeing the wildlife around your home.
No, Guam does not have Kookaburras. We had Kingfishers but they are now extinct. Many people want to blame the brown tree snakes but I think is was accumulation of things that made us loose our birds.
In 1976 the island was sprayed to kill the mosquito that spread dengue fever that the Vietnamese brought with them as they fled Vietnam. We also had typhoon Pamela that year and several years later we had five typhoons that messed things up. So although the brown tree snakes did damage it was not alone.
Nice to have clean windows.

Today, I had lunch with my Tuesday Lunch Bunch and took a balloon bouquet to our friend who had broken her arm. She is moving the arm and hand some now and even moving her fingers some. She actually served herself some salad using her right hand! Did not think just did!
Then I turned my tax information into the company to get my taxes prepared and finally went to the chiropractor.
Did little else afterward.

Take care all.

Jane

I fed the birds until I had an infestation of golden mantle squirrels who started chewing on electrical wiring. The pest control firm advised me to stop feeding the birds. I miss them but I don't want to have to hire someone to trap pesky critters again! (But my next door neighbor feeds everything, deer, birds, squirrels. So there will always be wildlife getting accustomed to dogs and people)

I am sorting through some very nice clothing that my mother wore, designer suits and dresses that she wore to church and parties. I am donating them. I don't know about your area, but very few people wear dressy outfits and suits to church here. Slacks and a nice top are far more common. And all my friends dress fairly casually for parties. The outfits remind me of mom, so I am keeping one very nice party dress (in the unlikely event that I go on a cruise again, it will be perfect for formal attire nights), and I photographed the others.

The window washers came! I love having clean windows.

Brenda I did not realize kookaburras eat meat. Glad you got your COVID shot, woo hoo! You are correct, visitors inspire me to clean house! Your lunch sounds nice, and the card with butterfly sounds perfect.

Jane does Guam have kookaburras? I didn't realize that. LOVE the sign language for butterfly. (Brenda, I agree -- too bad sign language for the deaf is not universal). So glad they did not charge you for the knee injection!!!

My in laws used to feed the Kookaburras but it got too expensive as the price of meat increased. They sat on the rail and made a mess too. They are loud. I used to feed the birds but here they aren't interested. Lots of hens around and with automatic feeders they just use the hen food and water.
Got my COVID injection today, no side effect yet
My Mum used to say without visitors houses would be very dirty.
With regard to deaf language it isn't universal there are many versions sad because it would be great. Anyhow the butterfly sign is nice.
My daughter cooked me a special meal for Mother's day. At lunch today someone had made some nice small messages on small cards, I chose the butterfly

Leona, hope you had a good Mother’s Day.

Brenda, nice that there is a cycle path in your area.
Does AU have a Mothers Day? If so when?

Alison, thank you.
Yes, the Kookaburra is loud.
Having company does force us to get our house cleaned up and things put where they belong.
Sorry the chicken posole was too spicy.

Yesterday I asked one of our deaf people what the sign for butterfly was. She did not know so when I got home I checked google. ASL says to cross hands at chest level, locking thumbs, keeping fingers together and out straight wiggle hands at first joint between hand and fingers as if flying. I thought it was neat.
I got the second shot in my right knee this morning. Did not pay so things are looking up.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Happy Mother's Day. Jane how lovely that the church gave scarves as gifts to all the mothers, and that yours had butterflies. Nice to hear from two of your sons.

Brenda sounds like a good day. Glad your daughter cooked for you, and that you have a new cycle path close by. I've never seen a kookaburra, but I was reminded of the song we learned as children "kookaburra sits in the old gum tree". So I looked on YouTube to actually hear them laughing -- wow that is a LOUD bird!

Welcome Leona.

I had a good day, I am cleaning house; particularly the spare bedroom because my sister is coming to visit and I tend to stash way too much stuff in that room. I tried a new recipe that my younger sister sent me, for chicken posole -- it was tasty but too spicy for me. I'm going to thin it down with lots of chicken broth and yogurt.
