Today I feel … well, beat up. Hubby is babying me … and I am loving it. I got in my 45 minute walk … so that’s all 5 for this week. And today is day 5 of me being back on track. I am sooooo thankful for Linda’s books. I have been successful in the past only to give up and not get back with it until I had gained ALL the weight back.

As Susan says … Onward and Downward!!!

I was blogging on my Spark page......at the beginning of 100 days, and I was journaling. Oh.....so good! Now, I am reading the lessons and thinking them over.

Cat - well done for not stuffing down your anxiety with those muffins which were being thrown at you by Mimi's - I am so glad to know you had your DH there to support you. This is scary and difficult stuff to deal with - your attitude is great.

Laurel - I popped over to Chapter 72 to see which one that was - and, guess what?! it's Sneak Eating - which we've been talking about on that little old thread I started last week or so. Linda's book covers pretty much EVERYTHING! Where are you blogging about your 100 Days Laurel? Or are you journalling on paper for yourself?

Not to worry ... BUT! My 3 year cancer free anniversary mamm didn't go as smooth as I wanted. I have a "spot" on my left breast ... I guess it wanted in on allllll the attention. After a sonogram ... it was inconclusive … other than solid mass. So I will have a biopsy on Monday at 10. It will take a week for the results. We have our fingers and toes crossed for a complex cyst ... these types of cyst are not filled with fluid but more “solid debris". Because I have had cancer they want to check it out. We are not going to worry until they tell us to.

We went to Mimi’s Café for lunch afterward. I made a promise to myself to stay on track … no matter what … and today it was put to the test. The brought fresh hot baguettes and raisin and carrot bread. Hubby put it in front of him … God love him. Then they brought a huge cranberry orange muffin. It went into a “doggie bag”. THEN because we have never eaten at a Mimi’s … they gave us 2 more huge muffins … blueberry and the other was gingerbread spice. Everything is in my freezer now!!!!!!

Laurel – keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Susan – do you know you have 3 levels for stickies???

Hi Laurel - Day 72 - jump right in where you are (can't you tell I'm a FlyBaby?!) - and great to see you back.

I'll be off to bed soon folks (it's 9.30pm here and I'm tired!) Hope you get your nap Mary!

Sorry about the confusing links this morning. I was having a devil of a time with "sticky topics" in the lessons forum and every time I fixed one, another disappeared. Don't you just love technology sometimes?

It's all better now.

You will have completed all 100 days by a month from now! Good decision! I believe I will just keep going round with these as I seem to stay more focused when I have a lesson to study.

I lost my way! emoticon I started off so strong.....engaged, blogging. At Lesson 72, I let life and health get in the way. I am not jumping in with full enthusiasm. So, I had to decide whether to start from Lesson 1 or continue. I decided to continue from Lesson 72 as I know I will read through this book again. Starting slowly.... emoticon ......but starting!

Gill - Thank you for becoming a team leader!

Cat - Thanks! Glad you are feeling better!

For some reason, work asked me to come in extra early - 4 a.m.! And then i couldn't stay asleep between the night sweats and thinking, thinking, thinking. Argggh. I think there is nap to come later today.

Day 14 - Morning Affects Evening - I always eat breakfast (frosted shredded wheat, milk, coffee) and my morning and afternoon snacks.

Wanda - Hope you feel better and better!

Wasn't able to try out the free xc ski lessons as I didn't have time after work to pick up the free rentals. Will try again next week - first have to find someone to trade shifts at work.

Saw my counselor yesterday -don't like hearing (and I already know that) I hold onto things like grudges and negativity, which pushes people away. I don't know how to let go. ;(

Yesterday I thought the bronchitis was really improving but today was miserable. I have to shake this!!

It is the time of year though; I know several people on the team have had winter colds, flu, bronchitis, etc. Take heart everyone.............Spring will surely come!

Cat, your story sounds eerily familiar to me. For years I have managed to do well through the holidays, keeping my gain to 3 lbs. or less but............always I have binged in January!
I don't know why but when January arrives the carb cravings are just crazy. This year I have been holding steady but I'm fighting the cravings every day.
The bronchitis is still here and I've been blaming the carb cravings on the fact that I feel ill but I have to admit that I fight them every year at this time. Yes all that lovely sweet, salty, crunchy stuff and pasta and bread and......oh I can't bear to think of it any more.

We will get through this!!

I have a major migraine … and it’s my fault. I woke up at 2:30am in excruciated pain. Took a hot, hot shower and then soaked in the tub … 2 hours later I went back to bed. Hubby … he slept through the whole thing. I spent most of last week eating sugar and crunchy things. No real reason that I can come up with. I spent Thanksgiving and Christmas staying on track and then BAM !!!! I go off the deep end. I did not exercise starting Wednesday. Each day I told myself “this day will be different” NOT. Yesterday I didn’t have any sugar … and now I have a withdrawal migraine. Today headache and all … I got in 30 minutes on my treadmill. Now I am dying on the couch.

Gill – Are you back on track???

Mary – Ouch! I had both my meniscus removed due to severe trauma … they did it orthoscopically. Two years ago I had both knees replaced … but you won’t have to go there.

T – Be gone puff the magic dragon … YEAH!!!!!

Wanda – glad you are feeling better.

Food … fuel or filler!!! Well, I know where I have been for a week … now to fuel my body so my brain will thank me.

Feelin' better every day! Thanks for the good wishes, Mary!

Awesome, T, that you can see the improvement in your fitness level even in such simple things as walking upstairs or up the driveway. Those simple things are important!

Managed to run some errands this morning; our son's wedding is Friday. It is going to be a nice day; a small wedding with a big party afterwards.

Wanda - I hope you get to the 'well" point really soon!

Day 12 - I'm keeping up on the readings. I've found this concept of fuel or filler rather helpful. In looking at my consumption yesterday, I did well according to Spark's nutrition report. My protein is within range, but on the low end.

The continuing saga of getting Dave health insurance continues - so frustrating! Especially so since it all could've been prevented if he'd signed up for insurance through his employer during open enrollment in November. Grrr.

Today's my day off. Overwhelmed without a routine. Guess I'm going to have to 'bite the bullet' and force myself to ADHERE to a regular bedtime.

Been there with the torn meniscus! Arthroscopy can help. I had multiple tears plus a lot of arthritis so it ended up being a knee replacement for me. I feel your pain though, Mary, and
I understand the shopping urge too.

It would be so nice to actually accomplish something! I know that instant gratification is not what I need though. I really NEED to clean my room! Hubs suggested going out for a quick dinner later; I think he sees how restless I'm feeling. Cabin fever, no doubt - haven't left the house in over a week. Anyway having someone else cook for us will be a nice reward for cleaning my room while he watches football.

Your food plan looks good Susan. I have been logging everything that I've eaten but the down side is that it hasn't been what I should be eating. Good thing it has been hard to eat and breathe too. Meals have been short and portions small. I should show a loss at TOPS tomorrow.

My exercise level is abysmal..must start moving again.

Hubs is reminding me that "a bit better is just a bit better - not "well". I know he is right and I would be telling him to go slowly too.

Gosh - So sorry to read about the challenges many of us have been facing. Yes, sometimes we have to take things one moment/meal/day at a time.

T - It sounds to me like you've made a good choice to incrementally increase your cardio!

AFM - I really want to buy stuff, I want immediate gratification, to get something done and have something to show for it. Sounds like emotional shopping, huh? The good thing (?) is I don't know what I want.

And, from the MRI I found out that the reason I can't run and I have had brief bouts of limping for 9 months is a torn meniscus. And I have to wait ;( until 2/9 for a surgical consult. But, there is some real hope that I might be able to return to my beloved running! :)

Time to go to work - bet it won't be busy at the store as the Packers are playing in the playoffs today. Maybe this Project Girl will get some satisfaction by doing projects in my department. :)

Hope y'all have a good day!

Wanda - my theory on the phone thing is that maybe we tend to hold our breath when we're listening to the other person - which makes our breath more stressed?

Cat - I've been making poor choices for a few days........ it happens xxx hang on in here with me/us! Do you know why you've been eating? I've been around a lot of tempting food and it just 'set me off'.

My head is swimming from all the sugar … I feel like I have a hangover. Today’s lesson helped … right now I am struggling and hubby knows it ... but hasn't said it point blank. He has gently pointed out the things I am doing "right". That's how I know ... he knows.

T – You are awesome!! And doing such a great job of taking care of yourself. If you do too much too fast … you will hit a wall and then not do anything NOT!!!! Most progression charts indicate adding 5ish minutes every week or even every other week.

Susan – Thank you for your kind, supportive words. Instead of beating myself up, I am taking it one step at a time, one meal at a time.

Wanda- The doctor told me take cough syrup and put me on 7 days of antibiotic. I found a cough syrup that had an expectorant, and also had a fever & cough syrup. Buying cough syrup is confusing these days with all the different choices!

By the time of your son's wedding the worst of the bronchitis should (hopefully) be over. I agree with the recommendations to sit as much as you can. How wonderful a time it is to see your DS join with the love of his life.

Cat- Just focus on today, or even just the next meal. Then when that one is conquered move on to the next. How sweet of your GS to want to wait until he was back with you to build the gingerbread house. DIL's blanket project sounds like a special surprise for DS.

Mary- I can't use a lot of the SP app on my phone, because my phone is 6 years old and the operating system isn't compatible with upgraded versions of the app. I "think" the app does allow you to view teams now, if your phone isn't a dinosaur like mine emoticon

I was trying to do 60 minutes walking on the treadmill daily, previously I was at 30 min, now I’ve decided to do 40 minutes a day. Cat had me thinking about too much too fast. Thanks Cat. I’ll take a week to do 40 minutes then evaluate again. The road to success is always under construction!

The g-kids just left. They were both good … so we had 2 good days. Everyone will be back on Sunday … when DIL will make DS a blanket and bind it in satin. DIL does not know how to sew … so this is our maiden voyage.

The g-kids finally got to make their gingerbread house. We sent it home with them last Sunday in the box … but mom and dad did not do it with them coz GS decided he wanted to do it with us once he got home. It’s nice to be loved.

I have been struggling this entire week … terribly. Exercise – non-existing. Eating – way off track. I feel like the Grinch visited after the after party.

T – BFF’s hubby does have prostate cancer … it has not spread out of the prostate. That’s the good news after the bad news. WooHoo … you are AWESOME!!!!!

Wanda – Take good care of yourself!!!

Mary ~ If you figure out how to see & reply on your phone - please let me know how.

Wanda ~ Perhaps it's harder to talk over the phone because of trying to talk louder than in person? A suggestion for the wedding - knowing that moving around causes more/louder wheezing (understandably!) than you could plan to get to your seat - a long time prior to the ceremony starting that your body has time to recover/calm.

Unfortunately in my past, I've had Bronchitis and Pneumonia and I've had them at the same time - so not fun but that is my only experience with wheezing. If I was in your shoes right now - being mother of the groom... I would anticipate having more problems with breathing on the day before the wedding and the wedding day because of more moving around and talking therefore I would try to think of things that would help me. Maybe not carrying anything, maybe walking slow, maybe trying to keep calm slow breaths, perhaps having halls cough drops with me to help clear passages - stop coughs, keeping water or warm tea handy. Wishing you all the best on the joyous wedding approaching!

Good Morning everyone!

emoticon emoticon T - Great job! Not only on getting the exercise but resisting the ice cream too! Wonderful; it is so hard when we have to be around things that we know can knock us off track. It would be nice if your son would eat his ice cream away from home for awhile. Sounds like you are really strong and determined now though.

I go to bed every night hoping the bronchitis wheezes will be gone by morning and I wake up thinking I'm doing really well but by the time I walk out of the bedroom and to the kitchen I'm wheezing as bad as ever. I'm actually sleeping quite well. When I'm very still and breathing very regularly - no wheezing. The wheezing is really bad when I'm moving around or talking. Talking on the phone is worse than talking with someone in the room for some reason; anyone know why? I don't feel sick in any way other than the breathing and that is tiring me.

Susan, what did your doctor give you for the bronchitis? The mucinex seems to be helping somewhat but when it wears off I can't see that there has been much improvement. The dreaded C-scope has now been put off until March 30 since we will be traveling some in February.

emoticon

On a happier note, I'm very much looking forward to my son's wedding on the 16th. He has waited a long time to find a woman with whom he can really build a marriage. They are very happy and we love them both. Hubs says he is glad Steve finally found someone who is interested in creating a home. Sherry works hard but she is just the kind of person who will always have a warm, welcoming home and that is something Steve has never been able to provide for himself. It is fun to see how much he has enjoyed working with her to get his house fixed up and how proud he is of her. Hub says he's just glad she loves to cook. Steve eats something other than peanut butter sandwiches and ramen noodles now LOL That is definitely not the way a 45 year old should live!

Now if I can just get through the wedding without my wheezing drowning out the minister!

emoticon Temptation ~ my son went to the store to get 3 x 5 index cards to make notes for college classes, in the past, a trip to the store also included all kinds of snack food. He asked me, I said, “we have everything we need”. He came home with a gallon of cookies & cream ice cream and had a huge bowl. It’s typical to get a GALLON (past behavior)! Later this evening I overheard him speaking to his dad, “I’m surprised – she didn’t have any – I looked dad). I silently celebrated to myself – YES! My next thought was… I hope he chooses to make some food & exercise changes too (FYI ~ I’ve shared with my boys and all young people who come to our house… when the opportunity presents itself ~ the importance of making exercise a part of their lifestyle (I share how I was “fit” in high school then quit exercising).

The g-kids and us ran errands most of the day. Got satin binding for DS’s blanket that DIL wants to make. We also bought a ChromeCast USB. We don’t have a clue what we are doing … so DS is going to teach us on Sunday.

BFF's hubby did not have any spread of his prostate cancer. So surgery is set for Jan 27th and we are DONE.

Wednesday – the day before the storm! We keep the g-kids Thu and Fri so today we are laying low. Hubby put a new starter in the truck … but no luck … still won’t start.

T – They recommend that you take 1 day off each week for rest … I always take off Sunday.

OH Wanda I am SO SORRY you have to go through that prep a second time. Now wouldn't it be nice if it flushed the bronchitis out too!

T- To find the lessons, go to the Lessons Forum, which is toward the bottom of the main page when you enter the team, and you will find a thread called Links to 100 Days Lessons. The click on the link inside it for the day you are on.

Gil I hope things get better for you soon.

Whew … I think I am sitting down and I have caught my breath … a little. The kids got to come on Sunday and fun was had by all. Yesterday is a little of a blur as we ran errands, went to the grocery store, got in my walk, cleaned up the house, found out hubby’s truck wouldn’t start, blah, blah, blah!!! Today I got my labs drawn got my walk done. Mamm is next on the 15th. I try to do all my health checks in January.

Wanda – Bummer!!!! I found the hard part of the colonoscopy to be the clean out day … not the procedure itself. Double bummer that you have to do it again. I agree with the ice pack the day “you know it’s coming”. The best over the counter product I have ever used was Zicam but they took it off the market because some people said that the nasal cold swabs were causing them to lose their sense of smell ... so they took all swabs off the market … but it worked for me and Abreva doesn’t.

Mary – I have my fingers crossed for your knee. WooHoo on your 25th Wedding Anniversary.

T – I see you posting here … but do not see you on the link to the Day’s assignments or are you posting your daily assignments privately??? Just want to make sure you know about it. AND you are an ATHLETE!!!!!!

Every Monday and every other weekend off is definitely a very nice foundation for the beginning of a plan Mary! That's four days off in each fortnight, right? Being tired on our days off is an issue. I'm getting most pleasure from doing yoga at the moment.

Teresa - Congrats on savoring the chocolate! I love to do that with Hershey's. :)

Didn't do so great with eating yesterday - not sure what triggered the overeating BEFORE DH got home for our annivesary. I felt so sick to my stomach afterwards that i wasn't good company - disappointed in myself. I know our relationship isn't great - probably due to yours (ADHD), mine(depressional, emotinal eating, neediness) and our issues. While there were no presents or flowers, he did get home when he promised and he did help me off with my coat at the restaurant.

Gill - thanks for the encouragement! I'm sorry you have irregular schedules to deal with as well. I don't have regular shifts (like a 7-3, 3-12, 12-7), I can start anytime as early as 5am, finish anytime as late as 12 midnight, with occasional overnights. The only things I can count on are Mondays off, Christmas Day off, and every other weekend off.

Susan - I grew up thinking the U.P. was Michigan - never really realized how big downstate Michigan was until I went to college in Valparaiso, IN. Both sides of my family are from the U.P., though I grew up near Chicago and now live in Wisconsin.

Hi Everyone - The Cscope was cancelled today due to the bronchitis. My breathing wasn't up to par. Now I get to go through all the prep next wee IF I feel better. I have had bronchitis hang around for weeks so we'll see.

As for being freeing cold, Susan - I grew up in North Dakota and as far as I'm concerned once you hit your personal "I'm freezing" point, colder temps just don't matter. For me that is about 15 degrees - from there down to 30 below it is all the same to me - too cold!!! Thankfully, Ohio does not have that kind of dangerous, bitter cold. We have lived here for 28 years and have seen some days near zero but they are few and very far between. One of the perks of getting older is being retired and not having to get out when the weather is miserable. Many schools in our area are closed today - I always watch the cancellations even though it really doesn't affect me now. Kind of glad all those little ones aren't out in this weather though.

Weight is down this morning YAY! I'm going in the right direction.

T-In Michigan. Where I live is known as Downriver although no river runs through the city I live in. It is from a time when people traveled down the river from Detroit to visit areas to the South of the city.

Awake before the alarm this morning emoticon and have my written plan to warm up/clean off the car and clear the driveway of snow before hopping in the shower. So happy my interview is mid-day so I can have a relaxed prep for it.

Hope everyone is doing well with this first week of this round of 100 days. I am definitely learning new things and digging deeper this time through!

Onward & Downward!

I meant to come back and catch up sooner, and the day took all sorts of unexpected and pleasant twists and turns emoticon

I ditto Gil on saying BEGONE wonky knees, fever blisters, bronchitis, etc.

Mary Happy emoticon emoticon !!!

Wanda I have had my first colonoscopy and can attest the prep is not fun. The procedure itself was so quick and over within 15-20 minutes. I will keep you in my thoughts as you prep tonight and prayers for a successful procedure in the morning.

Mary maybe the first step in setting up a schedule is
to track your time for what is happening over the next couple of weeks, then look back and see where you can fit in sparktime and exercise. Maybe a lesson a day is too much for you, but on other days you might have time to do 2-3 to get caught back up. Whatever works for you will be what is best.

Gil I had a pause last week. Hop back on the narrow road now and you will be fine. Maybe write about it in the magic notebook and look to see what you might learn from today's experience and how you might prevent a future pause.

Wanda I went to the hardware store to buy a window insulation kit (the plastic stuff) and my "helpful" hardware man told me we will have a low of -13, actual temp not windchill, by next week Friday. I don't mind temps in the teens. Below that I freeze, no matter how many layers I wear.
