Hi Darlene,
I know Align is more expensive, but when I tried previously to find something cheaper I became I was having some real problems. If a pharmacist told you that then perhaps I will give it a try.
Thanks

Hi Carol;
I was supposed to go on the Align as well, I could not afford to at this point in time. The pharmacist at Walmart told my partner and me that Equate was pretty much identical to Align. I have been taking it for about a month and sometimes I find it seems to be helping and other times I am in such uncomfortable situations and pain,
I know most of it is probably my eating habits as I have a high carb and high-fat cravings.

I was using Align, but due to the cost I switched to cheaper ones. Last Summer when I was having lots of GI issues my GI Dr. suggested I go back onto it. I started back on it and have found that my issues have improved. To tell you the truth I am not sure if it is due to the Align or the change in my diet. I am afraid to change to a different Probiotic since I have noticed an improvement. Btw where do you get the coupons for Amazon for the Align?

My GI doc recently recommended Algin. I was able to buy it on sale & with a coupon, but still expensive. Found it slightly cheaper on Amazon subscribe & save.
Have taken various probiotic brands for years, but can't say any helped long-term.
Dr liked Align based on research, strain used & pt feedback......she also recommended Florastor.

My PCP and gastroenterologist both had me try Align. It worked ok, but not great. A friend convinced me to try some doTERRA products and after two bottles of DigestZen PB Assist +, I'm sold and won't be going back to Align. I'm not a dealer, so this isn't a sales pitch. http://doterra.com/US/en/p/digestzen-pb-as
sist

They also carry the essential oil blend I've been taking for the D. So long as I take it every day (with breakfast), it has kept me basically D-free. http://doterra.com/US/en/p/digestzen-blend

I have used Align as well as my sister and it help slightly. There are a lot of great probiotics out there that work different for each person. I would try different versions and see which helps you best as we both were affected differently by align.

Align is not worth the money. It is not meant for people with IBS C. It worsens the constipation. If you have IBS D it may work better for you. Digestive enzymes are better for people with IBS C.

I just went to a new gastro doc. She said to use the Trader Joes Acidophilus & Probiotic Complex. It costs about $5 a bottle.

She uses it herself and recommends the Trader Joes brand because she thinks they have good quality control over their products.

If it's good enough for my gastro doc, it is good enough for me!!

I also saw align on the shelf at the store and was interested, but I opted for probiotics instead when I read the align box and saw that was all it was--not necessarily cheap, but much cheaper. I find that the higher the cultures, the better it works for me. 1 billion cultures does nothing for me now, but 20 billion works great. I am like everyone else though, everything works great for a couple of months or so. I find that exercise makes a big difference, too--whether I am exercising or not. That definitely helps keep me motivated to exercise.

I tried Align quite awhile ago with decent results. My doctor now has me on a prescription pro biotic that is really helping. It is nice because I have a drug program so that helps with the cost. It is called VSL #3 DS ( double strength ). You put it into water or juice ( I prefer grape juice ). Also I eat 2 Metamucil Wafers everyday. Lots of times I put peanut butter on it and call it breakfast. She has me switch off with Benacol powder when I seem out of control again. It has been a constant battle for 45 years, but right now seems fairly good.

Hi, I am new to Spark People and have suffered with IBS for 15 years. I am only 45. I have never tried Align due to the expense, so I turned to the health food section at my local grocery and at Wal-Mart. Nature's Bounty and other brands seem to provide adequate probiotics. However, what I have found is that each brand works 2-3 months, then I have to switch to a different one and it works for 2-3 months and so on. Contipation is all too familiar with me and bloating! If anyone has any new ideas to help me out, I would sure appreciate. Thanks!

I take Align, and have been for about 2 months. It worked over night, and by the second or third day I was experiencing some incredible relief. I find that it's not as effective as it was in the first days now after 2 months, but I still notice a huge difference if I forget to take it. (I have mostly IBS-D, with occaisonal C)

I started using this stuff called Invisifiber a while ago. I've turned several family members onto it (they also have IBS). You have to register for the site to buy it and it's about $35/month but it works really well if you take it daily. Don't expect instant results tho. You use one pack a day and you can put it in anything because it tastes like nothing. Hope it helps you like it's helped me. I notice a huge difference when I don't take it.

Hi, I tried Align by chance simply because my local store had it discontinued for like $8 for a month's supply. It actually helped and I would buy it again if it wasn't so expensive on the retail shelves (of course they sold out of the discounted boxes). If you're willing to shell out the cost then I would recommend trying it.

I tried the Align for one month and I didn't think it helped enough to warrant the expense. I'm beginning to wonder if I may possibly have SIBO as well. My sister was just diagnosed with it but I have to wait until October to get an appointment with her Doctor. I may blow up and explode before then!!! haha

I am using Align and I have really felt a lot better. I have IBS and was also treated for SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). I started it after a big dose of antibiotics for my SIBO. My doctor actually recommended that I take 2 Align a day instead of one, but also not interested in $60 per month I have opted to take 1 Align and eat 1 fermented milk product (i.e. yogurt or kefir milk). I have really had significantly less problems over the past few months. Nothing works perfectly, but it is helping.

Align is just a specific strain of probiotics that is being studied and has some clinical evidence behind it that it works. Not sure if the other brands have the research yet, but it doesn't mean they don't work. Other options are just getting probiotics the old fashioned way - through foods, like yogurt. Most yogurt has active cultures even if it isn't a special brand like Activia (although I do love this brand!!) This way you could count the money towards the food bill instead of supplement bills.
Try something in your price range, and give it a good month to see how you are feeling. Nothing gets better in IBS in a week.

Also, I did find Align at Sam's much cheaper - still expensive over all, but for me it has been worth the price.

Hope this helps.

I suffer with IBS-C and have used Align successfully for about a month or two. It is expensive, around $32 a month, but I will pay anything if it works. Unfortunately, it stopped working altogether after month 2. I then read about Digestive Advantage, IBS Relief, and tried that. Its a lot less expensive at about $9.00 a month and I felt it worked better... Unfortunately, that has since stopped working too! So now I am searching for my next new item... And am open to suggestions :) Its so frustrating that I feel so good while its working... until it stops and I have to go back to the drawing board.

I was going to try Align, but it is very expensive, especially for a one income family that has 4 small children! Anyway, I found something else called Sustenex, which I found worked pretty well and was a little less expensive. I am now trying Benefiber b/c I had a coupon, but it's not as good. So I'll probably go back to the Sustenex when this is gone.

No, even at Costco it is very expensive.

But if mine was worse, then I'd try it.

I must have missed something in this topic. What is Align?

Thanks, Terry

Hi. I haven't posted much on this team. I have colitis/IBS so I have tried some things, such as Asacol for the colitis. That is now pretty much in remission so I don't take that anymore. My doctor though recently gave me a 7 day trial of Align and I like it so I got some more. Its somewhat expensive though. I also tried accupture once and that was good also. Yoga helps with stress. Hope this helps.
