Hi team!

CRISSY: I am not very smart sometimes. I thought a singlet was one of those things like wrestlers wear... one piece shorts and top combined. If it is just a shirt, I guess I don't need a photo. LOL

Have a great day team!

Corrine, a singlet is basically an old-fashioned word for tank top. ;) To answer your questions, it took us 3:13 to do the full 20.45 miles. That's not including water stops, though, 'cause I stop my watch at water stops. I think total time with water and pee stops was 3:20, something like that. The max miles we plan to run is 22 miles. That will be the weekend of November 12, then we'll start our taper. The marathon is Saturday, December 3, less than 5 weeks away! And yay for a 300 calorie burn, even if it was short!!

Well, I didn't get to go to the gym. This is way TMI but I was off and on the toilet from 7:15 to 10:30. :( I think it was a combination of bad eating this weekend and the 20 mile run. I'm feeling better now but bummed that I didn't get to work out. :(

Crissy - I'm SO excited and proud of you for your 20+ miles! That is so amazing! It wasn't that long ago that you were thinking it was going to be too hard and that you weren't sure you could do it! Look at you go! How long did it take to run 20+ miles? When is your marathon? Do you plan to run 26 before the race?

I hate to reveal my ignorance - but what is a "singlet"?

I ran my 30 minute run this morning. It seemed VERY short and I hated the low number of calories - BUT I usually don't run on Monday so it is 300+ calories more then I would have had if I hadn't run.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everybody! emoticon

Yay for 20+ miles, Crissy. I don't blame you for wearing the singlet over long sleeves. It's cold out. Have fun on the elliptical.
I'm headed down for some biking. Maybe later this week I can do some elliptical...that's the hope.

Good morning ladies!

Jean aka SB ;), I'm wearing it over a long sleeve shirt. It looks like a tank top but with it being December, well, there is no way I'm running in just a tank top! LOL!

Today is a light day for me. I'm going to get on the elliptical for a bit and do some upper-body strength training. Tonight I'm taking my boys trick or treating with some friends. I love this time of year but hate all of the opportunities to eat!!

Hey guys! My calves have been sore the past 2 runs, too. I don't think it's dehydration because I drink a lot of water but who knows?? I guess I could drink a bit more and see. I ran a few hills on Friday and today's run was really long so that's probably it for me.

Speaking of running, we ran 20.45 miles!! I doubted my ability to do it but I finished and honestly could've kept going!! I'm tired and sore, though. I got my race singlet in the mail on Friday, and it is so small it looks like it'll fit my 7 year old!! It was so tight. Thank goodness I can exchange it at the expo. But anyway, I'm FINALLY getting excited about it!!

Good Morning....

CALVES: I notice that my calves are much tighter now that I am running more and consistently. That may have influence on the charlie-horse problem. Someone on another team suggested dehydration and of all the possibilities - this seems the most likely. Also possibly electrolyte imbalance. I have got to pay more attention to getting enough liquid.

SB - I don't know if the lack of potassium has anything to do with charlie horses, but I have had my legs ache and was told it was because I wasn't getting enough potassium and when I got some in my system they started to feel better right away. I haven't had a charlie horse for a very, very long time.

I had a nice easy 5 mile run today. I was really surprised that my calves were hurting during the run. I guess lack of use really tightened them up. By the end they were fine though. It felt good to get out there and run again!!

Good Morning!

Last night I was awakened by a very painful charlie-horse. My right calf was in knots. So much so that it kept me awake for quite awhile. I finally got up and rolled it and put some Ben Gay on it. Finally fell back to sleep. I looked it up and there is no definite reasons for charlie-horses. Anyone had any experience or know how to not have them?

They have a race with my name on it? I probably should run it right? emoticon Well I'd better get details. Curious to know what it is.

I'm out of here in a few hours. It's raining cats and dogs and I'm headed close to the snow/rain line so hopefully it's only rain when I get there. It's going to be a long day driving in the rain. I'll try to do a check in occasionally but doubt I'll spend too much time on this thing. LOL

Happy Evening !

NAT: Have a good evening with friends again. One thing about moving to a new state. One does not really know anyone.

CORRINECLARK: Yes, I can see and hear the ocean. It is right there!!!! So far it is my favorite place to run, but 23 miles away, so might not run there very often. Good luck starting the fat burning marathon training. I have the Donna 2013 in my "scopes" and think I might try. I don't know though it is a really long ways.

CRISSY: Good luck on your 20 miler on Sunday. I cannot imagine.

Corrine, I think that will be the story of my life starting on Monday. I have a love/hate relationship with the holidays! I love the decorations, spirit, etc., but I hate having to battle self-control with all of the yummy food and treats!! Enjoy your run!

Lisa, good luck at your 5k! I've about given up on 5k's. The next one in our area is Race of the Cure tomorrow and there's no way I'm doing that the day before my long run. I figured when I'm finished with this marathon training, I might find the time/energy to do one.

Last night I went to bed, really looking forward to my run this morning. And guess what I woke up to?? Yep, a downpour!! I was soooo freakin' mad! I stayed up for 45 minutes to see if it would slack off but nope, it rained and rained and rained. I don't mind running in rain but it was pouring and it was windy and cold. I went back to bed but could not get back in a deep sleep. :(

So I went to the gym and started my 6 mile run when another running friend who was also running on the treadmill due to the rain, asked me "Hey, wanna go run outside?" It had stopped raining so we took off! It was cold and windy but it beat running on the treadmill any day. Luckily the lady who keeps the day care kids, including my 2 year old, at the gym told me she wouldn't mind it if I left to run so I grabbed my phone and off we went. So I was able to get a 5 mile run in after all. :)

Tomorrow is a rest day before the big 20 miler on Sunday. Wish me luck!!

Wow! Take a few days off and you get way behind on the posts. It sounds like a lot has been going on and some great runs have been put in.

SB your path that you went on sounds really nice! Can you see and hear the ocean as you are running? I would love that.

Crissy - I take it tomorrow is your 20 miler? Good luck!

I was in San Antonio this last week and all I have to say is I ate my way through the whole week. I'm not even going to weigh myself - it would be just to depressing. I'm going to run for about an hour tomorrow to get back into the groove and then I'm going to start the Fat Burning Marathon training on Monday. I actually feel ready to get re-focused on both running and losing weight!

Ran 5 this morning and went to spin tonight. No LSR for me this weekend as it is a cutback week. I'm doing a 5k Poker Run at my DD's college instead. It's a fraternity fundraiser for homecoming weekend. Should be fun!

I am frantically trying to get ready for vacation. I leave early Saturday morning for a week of fun with friends. But I'm one of those people that my house has to be perfect before I leave. I'm not exactly sure why as my husband will still be home and that will really mess it up. LOL
I didn't work out today. I only got 3 hours of sleep last night and I'm so tired right now but I've got laundry to finish up before I call it a night. 1 more load to go.

Nat: 3:30 am? That's just wrong. LOL! I know you are used to your schedule, but I don't know if I could do that routine. Woo-hoo less than a week to go!!

Crissy: Yeah I don't know how to fit in something that is supposed to be every day and make that work with running. I think I would get tired of it real quick. I was thinking about using it as ST days instead of going to the gym. I've been trying to cut down on the number of trips I make a week. Not that it's all that far, but I would rather make better use of my time. Right now I'm doing spin in the evening on run days (T&Th because that's the only time they have class). And I don't want to change my run days. So M, W & F are my cross train & ST days. I usually end up swimming M&F and doing a dvd on Wed and riding my bike. It's hard to fit everything in!

Seabreeze, I agree with Nat. That's what retirement is for. :) I'm so looking forward to retirement myself. I don't work outside of the home right now but my kids keep me busy enough, especially the 2 year old. He wears me out. And there is no way I can control myself with muffins. I rarely make them, except when I know I'm going to splurge.

Nat, I just realized you have 6 days left with the boot! Yay!!

I'm so wiped out today that I've done nothing except go to Kroger. I think I'm going to take a nap in a bit.

SB, I think you should spend some time readying, playing computer games and hanging out. That's what retirement is for.
I rode 12.12 miles today...a little slower than yesterday but that's okay. I might be meeting a friend for dinner tonight. If so, I probably will not workout tomorrow morning since we tend to stay out kind of late.

Hi Team!

NAT: Being done by 3:30 A.M. That is definitely early and that is definitely commitment!!! WTG!!

CRISSY: I really dislike ST too. That is why I have convinced myself I can do 15 min several times a week. No more than that. I am so lazy. Nice job on the 6 miles.

Nice day today. Very relaxed. Retirement can become habit forming. It is a good thing I run, otherwise I would just read and play computer games and "hang out."

Lisa, I really want to do P90x but don't know when I'd squeeze it in. I run 4 days per week and need to take at least one day off, which leaves 2 days of cross training. I'm wondering if 2 days of it would be sufficient? I'd love to be able to do a pull up. I'm so tempted to buy a pull up bar and start practicing.

Seabreeze, I don't like ST and have to force myself to do it. I really don't like doing crunches or push ups.

Today was a great 6 mile run!!

Great run, SB!! I don't burn many more calories than that per mile.
Yay for 30DS, Donna! I love that workout. I think I'll get back to it when I am able to do some jumping.
As it happens, Lisa, I just acquired P90X. Sent as a gift from a friend. I will probably give it a whirl next year. Need to ease back into stuff when I'm able to be two-footed again. I've heard great things about it. Insanity is all body weight exercises whereas P90X is weights.
I did 12.21 on the bike this morning. It's nice being done for the day by 3:30am. ;-)

Good Morning!

LISA: I have not tried either. But on another thread the members use them a lot and love both of them.

For me, I am a simple ST person - crunches, push ups and a couple others - about 10 - 15 minutes. I am happy with that.

I actually like JM's Shred. I think it's harder than Cardio Max and less pain in my knees. With Shred, I feel like I am getting toner. I don't do it every day, I was doing it on non-run days and occasionally I'd switch out with a resistance band dvd. I also have JM's Banish the Fat, Boost Metabolism. Can't stand that one. It hurts my knees. One of my issues with Jillian is the amount of jumping jacks she has you do. Really, jacks again? I do get tired of them and since I'm more endowed than she is you notice it. :) I've not made it to level 3 yet, with not doing this for the past month I went back to level 1. My abs are feeling it tonight.

Amy: You are a winner! Getting dehydrated stinks and you feel all crappy, but you still did it and that's awesome!

Crissy: Yeah I don't think it matters much when you're maintaining anyway. You don't log your calories either, right? The only difference it would make is if you are trying to lose and logging everything so you can see where you should be vs where you are -that's where accuracy would make a big difference. I have JM 30 Day Shred too ... but I think I expected something really hard after hearing people talk about it. I like JM and I think it's a good video. It just wasn't what I was expecting. I actually like the old Biggest Loser dvd's better. Cardiomax, Boot Camp and Weight loss Yoga are my favorites.

I'm really curious about P90X or Insanity. Has anyone tried those? I wish there was a place here for CrossFit. I would dig that. Except I can't do a pull up. LOL

Yeah! Go Pink! What an awesome thing to finish a half marathon.

SB, good for you for taking the day off from painting. Your run and after run/read sounded so nice. Very relaxing, just what a Monday should be. Ahhh!

My exercise of torture today was Jillian's Shred. Yep, I'm already hurting. It's been a month since I've done that and boy could I tell. I've been out running or walking so much because the weather is nice but really I need to work the whole body.

Off to get a haircut/color. I'll be human again soon. Woo Hoo!

Howdy friends!

PINK: emoticon

Day off of painting today....seriously, I want to hire someone to finish this house.....

***

Had a great run and great morning today. DH and I drove to the ocean where there is a paved trail next to the beach with shade from trees over almost all of the trail. I did have to go back and forth and back and forth several times, but it felt so good to run there. Total miles covered was 14.52. Run-walk miles was 14.06!!

Garmin said I burned a total of 1136 calories (I don't wear a HRM). So that is about 78 per mile. But I am pretty slow....

Then we sat under the trees - read for awhile - watched the fishermen, birds, and boats (and one dolphin).

Out for lunch

Well, I did it.. I completed my first Half.
Corrine, I think I felt like you did - like I was going to faint. Not a good feeling : ( I should have drank more water. I definately got dehydrated.
Even so, I'm looking forward to doing another : )

Crissy, I'd need to ride 100 miles to burn off junk too....easily. I bet that 13 miler burned a couple of calories, though.
You sound super busy, 4LMARIEM. It's okay to take a little time off to get stuff done.
SB, it's probably worth it to hire a painter. You should be relaxing in your new place.
Yay for a great bike ride, Lisa!!
My polar HRM does use HR to calculate calories. I wish I could check the calories burned on the fly but it doesn't let me see until I'm done. I only burn about 85 calories/mile.
No biking today...just some ST later.

Lisa, maybe so? I never thought of that. Well, it could be way off but that's okay. I've been maintaining my weight just fine. I mean, I have weeks where I'm up a couple of pounds but that's normal. It's going to fluctuate. I try to stay within 3 pounds of my goal weight. And yes, hills are killer!! We ran some hills yesterday (again, nothing like Vicksburg hills!) and it was tiring.

Today is a light day since we ran long yesterday. I plan to get on the elliptical for a little while and do some strength training.

Rode my bike 17 miles today and I was definitely feeling that 8 mile run from yesterday. I will have to tone down the Sun bike miles as the Sat LSR's increase. That's just too much leg on back to back days. It would help if my ride didn't include climbing hills, LOL.

Crissy: Yes, I'm registered for the Blues Half. I'm thinking maybe Renaissance, too. You must have one of the Garmin models that doesn't use HR in the calorie calculation. It calculates by distance and speed. My 405cx uses HR and calculates on the First Beat technology. I average 95 per mile and it goes up with hilly miles, but not so much faster miles. I burn more while going slow uphill than while going faster on a flat. Interesting stuff to look at.

Lisa, my Garmin does show calories burned, with or without a heart rate monitor. I realized that it correctly calculated my calories without the monitor so I stopped wearing it. I usually burn 100-103 calories per mile (depending on how fast I run). Today's run I burned 1328 calories. I ate that up quickly, though. ;) It sounds like you are getting plenty of exercise anyway! My son is going as Luigi, too. He was Mario 2 years ago, Luigi last year and wanted to go as Luigi again this year. I was fine with it because it means I didn't have to buy another costume. ;)

Seabreeze, it might be worth it to hire someone to finish the house but you're right, painters are sooo expensive! You can see why. ;)

Hi Team!

Exhausted right now - painted another 4+ hours. I'm considering getting a quote for someone to come in and finish the house. Probably too much money though.

NATPLUMMER: Wow - that 16+ miles is awesome!

Burning Caloriies: The Garmin that I have does show calories burned. It is always more than Spark shows. But if I am consistently using the Garmin I should know how many I need to burn. When I do my LSRs I usually burn over 1,000. I would imagine 20 miles would really burn a lot.

****

Have a good evening. Catch ya'll tomorrow!

Crissy, does your monitor track you calories burned? I was just curious how many you burn running your LSR's?

I'm not exercising right now. Packing, moving, stress!! I'm watching my nutrition and somehow lost a pound this week. Maybe this forced break is what my shins need?? I guess we'll see. Movers are coming on the 29th, so I'm hoping to get back to some sort of normal by Halloween! My boys are going as Mario and Luigi. They should be cute! My near 4 year old is Mario obsessed. Happy Sunday to you all!

Nat, I'd need to do about 100 miles on the bike to burn all the CRAP I've eaten this week!! Argh, it's been a bad week all around. Glad you're sticking with working out even with the boot!!

Lisa, so glad your runs are going well!! You've been doing phenomenal after your injury! Are you running the Blues marathon? I'm still debating if I want to do the half. . .

Seabreeze, I'm not envious of all the painting you are doing. ;)

Today was a 13 miler for us. It was nice to have that kickback since we've had two high mileage weekends. Next weekend is the dreaded 20 miler!! Only 6 weeks to go!! It took me an hour, 4LMARIEM. I'm using the lowest resistance on the bike so I keep as little pressure on my foot as possible.

Thanks for the info, SB. I just have the Half-Marthon, You can do it book. I might pick up the marathon one, though. The wedding and dinner were both very nice. Yay for painting!!
I got in 16.44 miles on the bike this morning to burn off some of the tasty food.

Great work this week from everybody! I'm still doing well with my runs and so far, so good. Did 8 miles today and felt good the whole time. It really helps having nice weather! As for gloves, I did wear the .99 knit gloves for the first couple of months last year. However, once my hands start to sweat they become damp and the cold air seeps through. I switched to some unlined microfleece gloves I found at Target. They are great! And I've also learned to take my gloves off as soon as my hands feel warm.

Crissy: Glad your son is back at school and doing well.

Amy: Big cheers for you tomorrow!!

Good job on the running and biking everyone!

Amy, good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I fully intend to run through the winter! If I can handle running through the heat and humidity of the summer, I can handle the cold! The first mile is rough but then it gets easier once you get warmed up. You can do high knees or push ups to warm up before you go outside. ;)

I usually run 3 or 4 days per week, with one complete day of rest and one or two days of cross training using the elliptical. During weekly runs, I run 6 or 7 miles. The LSR varies depending on what I'm training for. Tomorrow's will be 13 miles since it's a kickback week but next week will be 20. When I'm not training for a half or full marathon, I try to keep it at least 10 miles, preferably 12.

I had an awesome 9 mile run this morning. My goal was 7.5 but I would keep telling myself, just a little bit further, ok, a little further more. By 9 miles my legs were tired so I figured that was good time to stop. I'm going out of town this next week and won't have an opportunity to run. This will be the first time in almost a year that I will have 6 days without running. I figure next Saturday when I am back home I'll just do an hour run and then on Halloween Monday I will start the Fat Burning Marathon Training. I'm picturing myself running through the winter. I just don't want to have to give up running for a few months (I don't have a treadmill and can't afford to join a gym)!

Pink - lots and lots of luck tomorrow! Enjoy every minute of it!

Yay for 7 miles, Crissy!! How is your son doing?
One would think that with my cold hands, I'd know of some gloves but I just buy the cheapie gloves at the drugstore. I haven't tried running with them, though.
Yay, Pink!! Good job getting out for a little exercise. You don't want to do too much before the race on Sunday!! That sounds like a good goal for long runs. I was planning on doing that myself after I did my halfs.
Sorry, Donna. I can't answer any of your questions.
You're welcome, Corrine. I can't wait until I can order a pair for myself :-) But that will be next year at least.
Good Morning, SB!! I love all the choices for tickers now. Is the fat burning marathon training in one of the books? I don't see it online. I wouldn't have time for all of that midweek running. I do recall the walking recommendation from at least one of the books. You've got a great schedule!!
I did 15.1 miles on the bike this morning...all that the butt would allow. I've got a wedding and a going away dinner to go to today so I figured I'd better burn off a few calories ;-)
Happy Saturday!!

Happy Saturday!

Maintenance Ticker: Edit your Spark page and then edit your ticker. Lots of new choices to choose from.

Fat Burning Marathon Training: I looked at the training program again last night. It has you running 60-90 minutes 3X per week with every other week a long run. It also has you running a short 30 minute run 1X per week. Cross training 2X (something that heats your body up like running, but is not running). Walking 1X per week.

I remember reading in one of his books...., that to burn fat one should walk every day in addition to running. 10,000 steps on non-running days and 5000-6000 on running days.

GLOVES: I always just wore those 99 cent cloves from WalMart of K-Mart. It kept the wind off the hands. Sometimes if I needed more warmth I would just pull my sleeves down over my hands. PINK: Sorry your hands were cold using these.

emoticon
MY RUNNING SCHEDULE:

*Every other week a long slow run 12-15 miles. And by slow I mean about 2 minutes slower than my HM race pace.

*Run 3X per week - 60 minutes (however far that takes me). I am thinking of extending this to 75 though.

Monday's: Long Slow Run or Speed work (800s).

Wednesday: Easy Run; Race Pace (tempo) Run; or Magic Mile run [Magic Mile is part of Galloway's training. Basically during the 60 minute run include a mile that is pretty much all out - as fast as you can go - trying to beat one's last MM by a few seconds or so]

Fridays: Drills; a Virtual Race run (I'm on a virtual racing team); or an Easy Run.

****
That is pretty much my weekly running schedule (unless there are thunderstorms or something).

I am trying to add more biking and walking on non-running days, but these all too often do not get done.

I try to listen to my body on running days and if I need an easy running day (slower than normal, but not as slow as a long slow run) I will take it.

Goal: Keep this body injury free and healthy.

****

Have a wonderful day everyone!

After my race TOMORROW (can you I'm excited?), I'm going to keep my LSR on Saturdays between 8-10 miles. That is my goal. I don't want to lose that distance. I just have to keep tough through the winter months. I'll do an easy pace run on Monday's & then Thursdays I'm going to work on speed. I have GOT to start getting faster.

Pink - lots and lots of luck at your race!

Crissy - I bought snow gloves to wear when it is really cold outside. They are nice and warm and then my hands start to sweat and I can't take them off or my fingers would freeze.

Donna - Without the goal of working towards an HM I don't know what I would have done. It inspired me to keep running and adding mileage. Right now my short runs average about an hour and my long runs I was adding a 1/2 mile each long run day. The full training I'm going to do adds miles every other long run day and then the other week you just run 4 miles. It is going to be weird to only run 4 miles.

Nat - thanks for the link for the earrings!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Pink: Have a great race. It sounds like fun.

Crissy: Sorry to hear about your son, glad he is back to school again. Ah, normal...what is that?

Stickers/magnets: I want one! I will get one when I do that distance too. My friend's husband runs marathons and he has them that say 26.2 x 8. So after the Marine Corp he has to get a new one. He loves it though. Me...I'll be thrilled with just one. I wanted one that said 5k after I ran my first one but the running store doesn't carry them anymore. Now that I run farther than 5k it would seem rather weak to put that on my truck. LOL

And speaking of running far...once you run your hm or full for the season, then what do you do? What is your weekly plan? I will be running a 10k in the spring and haven't picked a hm to do yet but perhaps also in the spring. I'm already running 6miles on my Saturday runs so do you just keep adding to the lsr all the time? How long do you run on your short or tempo runs?

I'm full of questions. :) It's been a rough exercise week for me. Just not motivated. I've fallen off both the exercise and food wagon so I understand Lisa. I just been under a lot of stress with family lately and I should be on the treadmill all the time to work it out but I don't have the time. Ugh...but tomorrow is a new day.

I need some good gloves, too. This morning I wore the stretchy $1 kind & my hands were cold the entire time I was out. The only other place that was cold were my cheeks.
Today I walked & ran 2 miles. Mostly to just get my muscles warm so I could do some good stretching.
Tomorrow I'll probably do more walking than I should when I go to pick up my packet at the expo & then do some shopping for hubby & daughter. It would be nice to have a relaxing day before the race but it will be jam packed, just like any other Saturday.

Crissy, your poor son! I bet he was scared, having to have surgery.

Seabreeze, glad your DH is doing better and running again!! My DH and I ran our very first HM together and it was a great experience. I hope you guys are able to do it, too. Where do you get the maintenance ticker??

Corrine, yay on the run! How are you feeling after the HM??

Okay, what is the fat burning marathon training program? I don't need to lose weight but if I did, I'd find it hard to do with marathon training. You would think running 40 or 50 miles per week would be some serious fat/calorie burning but I am soooooooo hungry that I eat to maintain, and I could eat even more. Just wondering how y'all do it!

My friend and I ran 7 miles this morning. Brrr, it was chilly! Other than my hands, my body was fine after a half a mile. My hands were freezing, so I need some good gloves. Any recommendations?

Yay for a run, Crissy!!
Have a great run, SB.
I did actually do 12.5 miles yesterday on the bike. Deciding if I will do some this afternoon or not with my upper body ST. I'll see how the butt is feeling and maybe do 30 minutes.

Hi team!

CRISSY: Sorry to hear about your son's infection. I am glad it is better now and he is back at school.

NAT: Hope you are feeling "stable" today! Nothing wrong with a day off!!!

4LMARIEM: You can do it...just takes one decision at a time...to get back on track.

PINKBEANBOO: Good luck this weekend and remember you are having fun!!!! I bought a 13.1 sticker after my first HM. I did not stick it on my car as DH would have a fit. I do have it sitting next to my medal though. It is a good reminder!

CORRINE: Good job on the 5.5 mile run. Thanks for asking about DH. He is doing good. He was VERY stressed out during and right after this move - so much so - he kept thinking he might have a heart attack. I get stressed sometimes too, but I have different stressors and I guess moving is not one of them. He just started running again (using very, very liberal run-walk ratio). He had pulled both ligaments behind both knees in July running a 5K race. I am so glad he is running again. He wants to run a HM with me in February.

I changed my ticker to the maintenance ticker. I reached my goal weight of 127 in December of 2008 and maintained it for a full year. Then I just started creeping up. I have been close to 135 since then and cannot seem to find the discipline to lose these pounds again. I do think I would be a better runner if I would get rid of these 7-8 pounds again.

Galloway fat burning marathon training program. I have also considered this. Thanks for the reminder. I kept waiting until I was moved and settled. I'll have to get that book out again and look at it more carefully.

****

Chilly in FL this morning. Will head out about 8 or so for today's run. Can't wait.

Have a good day everyone!

Lisa, isn't this Mississippi weather FUN?? ;) I want to order some of those compression tights, too.

Other Lisa, you can do it! I think we've all fallen off of the wagon a time or two, just jump right back on!!

Amy, yes I had a 13.1 sticker on my van but when I sold it and got my Pilot, I didn't get a new one. I'd actually prefer the magnets that just stick on the car, but I haven't been able to find those around here. When I run my 26.2, I'm DEFINITELY getting one!!

Hello to everyone else!

Sorry I've been MIA. It's a long story but I've been in the hospital with my older son Matthew. He got an infection in his finger and had to have surgery. He's doing just fine now and is back at school. I realized just how hard it is to eat right when staying at a hospital. Boredom, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, it all takes a toll. Thank goodness we didn't have to stay long!

Yesterday morning I got up and ran early and wow, it was chilly! Now I have to get acclimated to running in the cold.

Well I opened my big mouth about how it doesn't get cold here and I woke up to 28 degrees. That's really unusual! But it gave me a chance to try out my new compression capris from Old Navy. A big thumbs up approval. They have them on sale online for $15 plus another 30% discount on your order today. Tomorrow it is 25% and Saturday, 20%. I order 2 more pairs and some for my DD. They fit perfect, not so tight they cut into my belly fat and show love handles, LOL. They were just as nice on the run as my Nike Dri-Fit capris that I paid big bucks for. And I'm definitely better adapted to the cold this year. I went out this morning with a heavier longsleeve tech shirt topped with a microfleece and I was plenty warm from the start. It makes a difference for your body to get used to having less insulation!

Nat - where did you get those earrings! I want to get a pair!

Pink - how are you feeling? Now that you mention it I might think about getting a 13.1 sticker for my car! It really is an accomplishment to have run that far. I have seen the 26.2 stickers but I don't think I have seen the 13.1.

SB - while you are out and about you should scout out some good running paths. BTW - how is your DH doing? Is he fully recovered from his health problems earlier this year? Also, I noticed your ticker is going the wrong direction - is that for your weight or something else? I guess if I was being more honest with myself I would update mine each time I gain! I just leave it where it is hoping I'll get back down again.

L4 - isn't nice to know you aren't alone! We all have the same struggles - I guess that is why we are on Spark People!

I had a nice 5.5 mile run this morning. I have decided I am going to try Jeff Galloway's Fat Burning Marathon Training. It is a very interesting training program and I'm going to get my mind set on eating to fuel my body so that I can lose the weight that I have gained and finally get to goal!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

I don't know if I'll get a sticker but I was planning on getting some 13.1 earrings.
4LMARIEM, don't beat yourself up. Just take it one day at a time.

That stinks! Sorry your having trouble. Seems like it can snowball so easily & it is hard to stop its momentum. But you can do it! Just have one good day & turn into another.

How many of you marathoners have a 13.1 or 26.2 sticker on your car? Or, if you haven't done a race yet, will you get a sticker when you do?

I've fallen of both the food and exercise wagon! Ugh! I'm not feeling motivated at all. My mom was here for two weeks to help me get ready for our move at the end of the month. I did well until this past Friday, but since have opted for convenience to ease the stress. However, it seems to have me more stressed because I'm not doing what I should be doing and I'm worried about undoing the progress I've made. Blah!! I need to stop my whining, huh?!

Since I run so early in the morning on weekdays, I keep that to the treadmill. Once I get back to running, I will probably stick to the treadmill at first and then move the long runs outside. Luckily in California, the weather is pretty temperate.
Sounds like a fun day, SB!!
I woke up feeling a little dizzy so I went back to sleep instead of biking. Will do that and some lower body ST when I get home. Darn allergies.
Happy Thursday!

Good Morning!

PINKBEANBOO: Hope you are feeling good today!

RUNNING IN THE COLD: I bought some NIKE long sleeve running tops and wore these next to my body. Then some type of sweatshirt. I would buy those 99 cent gloves, and ear/head band and a hat. The toughest part is running on wet or icy or snowy roads. But, I live in FL now and wonder if I will ever wear those running clothes for cold days.

EVERYONE ELSE: HI!!!

****

A very little house cleaning and organizing this morning.
This afternoon - DH and I are going out to explore some different areas. Having visited Florida probably 100 times or so in the last 30 years.... there is a lot of FL we have already seen. Just looking around at places we have not been.....

That's some great advice Lisa - thanks! Last year I chickened out of running in the cold - this year I want to keep on going. I just wasn't sure what to wear next to my skin. In January it can be in the teens and sometimes in the single digits so it does get pretty cold!

Last year was my first year as a runner too and I totally wimped out and ran on the treadmill. I still will probably do that again as I have a fear of slipping in the ice. My first broken bone was on ice and I'd rather not do that again. When I've run in the cooler weather (30-40's) I've dressed in layers and just peeled off clothes. I swear by the tech clothes and wear it year round.
I couldn't get a workout in today, I've got a killer headache. It's a combo of weather and reduction in calories. I'd been out of control this past week and I've got to get back on track.

I wimped out last winter (my first winter as a runner). I hardly went out at all & when I did I was miserable because I didn't have the right kind of clothing.
This year, I plan on getting some of those tights/pants that have the fleece type lining, a waterproof windbreaker, gloves, & some type of hat that comes down on your neck & covers your forehead & mouth. Those are on my wish list. And some wool socks.

Corrine: I don't think I qualify as a cold-weather runner because, well, it's just not that cold here haha. But I do run when a lot of people won't so maybe I can give you a few ideas. Layering is key. Start with a longsleeve tech shirt as your base layer to wick sweat away and keep you more dry. Being wet makes you feel the cold more. The next layer depends on the temp. If it's 35-45 I add a microfleece pullover and switch from capris to long tights. I also add a hat and gloves although the gloves usually come off after about 15 minutes (unless it's windy). Below 35 I wear an Underarmour ColdGear fleece pullover which is heavier and if there's a chilly wind I add a windbreaker. It's rarely below 30, but when it is I wear a pair of hosiery tights under my compression tights and top layers are sleeveless compression/longsleeve tech/fleece. Of course this is all dependent upon your own tolerance for the cold. Last fall I was freezing if it was 50. I think that was because my lighter body was not acclimated to the difference in temp without the extra insulation, LOL. But towards the end of winter I was better adjusted and didn't need a parka to run at 35 degrees.

I have gotten much better about the dough and just usually sample a little to make sure it's okay. Often I don't even have an actual cookie.
I don't burn many calories when I'm running, either. Being small certainly doesn't help.
Pink, I hope you can fight off whatever is starting.
Great run, Corrine.
I did 12 miles on the bike this morning. Chiropractor this afternoon. So glad it's Wednesday!!

Pink - I hope you don't get sick! I want you to have an awesome experience in your first HM!

I did a nice easy 60 minute run tonight. I'm not feeling stiff and sore anymore.

Question: All you cold weather runners - do you have special clothes and/or shoes that you wear so you can be outdoors all winter long?

Amy: A couple of weeks ago I had that same feeling right before my 5 mile race. I immediately started taking echinacea and 5000iu vitamin D. I barely sniffled and I think I coughed maybe a dozen times over 3 days. That's a win. Oh and I also swear by homemade spicy chicken noodle soup.

Lately, I've only been burning about 85 calories a mile (sometimes it is even in the 60s). That low of a calorie burn has been helping me stay away from the cookies. Although, I did have a brownie last night.

5 days till my half & wouldn't you know that today my throat is trying to get that thick feeling & I'm a little dizzy. I WILL NOT GET SICK. I'm going home at lunch & getting some sinus medicine. Any other suggestions on how to fight it off?
