Hi friends,

We decorated the weekend before Christmas day. We use to put the tree up on the eve of Christmas. The children loved it.

Our children all come to our house early on Christmas morning and stay until the evening. We all eat and laugh and enjoy the day sharing.

I do send Christmas cards. Not this year. I will miss doing it due to my wrist. My writing hand. emoticon

So my question is: WHEN DO YOU BEGIN YOUR DECORATING ? I haven't decorated for Christmas for many years now, although this year I am making a change and doing it. I had to quit my job in November of 2018 for health reasons and now I have the time to do the things that I want to do I plan on doing my decorating on the 7th and will keep them up until the New
Year.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TRADITION THAT YOU DO? Yes. Our family gets together on Christmas Day and we open our gifts and have a mexican lunch. (tacos, enchiladas, nachos, etc.) Seems to be something that everyone likes. I also go to my grandchildren's Christmas programs for school when they have them . I also watch Hallmark Christmas movies.

DO YOU STILL SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS?
I haven't for a very long time. This year I am going to do it. I won't be sending out a whole lot though.

We put an electric candle in each window. SOme years we put giant ornaments on the branches of the cherry tree in our front years. I decorate the house with Christmas things, most hold a special memory. We get a large live tree and decorate it with lights and ornaments.
We do send about 80 cards.
I like to watch Hallmark Christmas movies.

Blessings,
Ruthie

My tradition is to watch The Polar Express and the old black and white A Christmas Carol on Christmas eve.

I don't send Christmas cards.

I don't do a lot of decorating but plan on getting it done this weekend. I always begin after Thanksgiving.

I would like to keep this thread going through the end of the year.

WHEN DO YOU BEGIN YOUR DECORATING ?
I do celebrate Christmas, but it's pretty low key. I don't do any outdoor decorating, although I did have an outdoor outlet installed this summer, so that I could run lights out to the little spruce if I wanted to do so. Didn't buy any lights though, and now we've got tons of snow so I don't think I'll be climbing any ladders to hang lights. My decorations consist of a lighted pink pig with wings in a santa hat, and a crocheted grinch that I hang on my door, and an embroidered picture with a holiday theme. I will probably put them up this weekend.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TRADITION THAT YOU DO?
Rich and I usually exchange Christmas Stockings and watch Christmas movies. The original Grinch cartoon, or Charlie Brown Christmas.

DO YOU STILL SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS?
I only send 3-4 Christmas Cards.

Cathe, I am glad the letter helped you.

Here we are in December already, can you believe it?
I am going to put up a Topic for this week and next, but I want to know if you want to keep this thread going or let it be until after the first of the year?

I know that we have members who don't celebrate our Christmas and I don't mean to leave you out, in fact, I would love to learn about the holidays that you do celebrate!

So my question is: WHEN DO YOU BEGIN YOUR DECORATING ?
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TRADITION THAT YOU DO?
DO YOU STILL SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS?

That should keep us busy for a little while. I am excited to see what we get.

I have enjoyed all the varied responses to the 'rewards' topic. We are a diverse team for sure. These 'conversations' are supportive and informative. One more example of what Sparkpeople has to offer...ideas to explore and put to use in our personal commitments to keep 'sparking'.

MARITIMER3, hooray for thinking about global warming and the environment! I switched to buying only US in-season produce some years ago for environmental and quality reasons. I've found Cascadian Farms frozen berries to be quite yummy in my oatmeal during the winter. Their frozen peas are tasty, too. Thank goodness for winter root veggies!

No formal reward system...being accountable is a reward for me. But...I do include 'fun' stuff on my task list...like jigsaw puzzles, reading, outdoor adventures if the weather permits.

I work on my list 25/5 - 25 minutes of work, then a 5 minute break. Never skip the break. After 4 cycles (2 hours), take a 15 minute break. As long as my energy is high, I can blitz through a to-do list using this technique.

Being creative is always on my daily list - knitting, zentagle-ing, or sketching in my daily journal entry. Sometimes stitching up holiday decorations or table linens or window treatments. Daydreaming is on the list, too - new design elements for my huge yard! I work newspaper crossword puzzles every morning with coffee:) I stay on the lookout, too, for something that makes me laugh out loud every day and record it in my journal.
