thanks. I thought about insulin and the body getting used it it and maybe not being able to get off insulin once on it. Actos is out of the question. Thanks for your advice. My numbers are already improving. I am no doctor. Insulin will be my last resort. Actos not for me.

Diet is essential to managing your Diabetes. I have taken both Actos and Insulin. Had problems with Actos being subbed for Glipizide. Despite the chaos in your life, manage those carbs to the best of your ability. Insulin is a tough walk back to just oral medicine. Good luck

numbers are higher. Dr prescribed actos. I know it causes or can cause bladder cancer. Because of covid and my adult son regular activities being halted or I decided to halt them I have developed some bad eating habits and unproductive habits. So I have decided to for go that cancer causing medication and get back to the business of having control of my diabetes. I will report to my dr when I see her the next time. I am cutting back on my meals and carbs. So far my numbers have improved but I am still monitoring them. She mentioned that she does not want to choose insulin just yet. I am on a mission now! Not stopping. emoticon emoticon

Gail interesting point. Their diet is a normal one by no means.
Its necessary as a Diabetic, to get the support of your health team. Because of that I was fortunate to change medical providers. Eating a "normal diet" was leading me to stronger meds and gradually higher blood sugar testing levels.
How are you combating this disease?

How do people get carbs so low and still eat minimum 1200 calories per day and not have high RDA Fat?

There seems to be some controversy on that subject regarding a low carb diet. Registered dietitians also seem to have different opinions. Personally I found the "allowances" for carbs per day also on the high end.
I hope your Internist and nurse coaches work with you on this. I changed medical companies regarding this and other issues. Hope whatever diet of carbs you choose, works for you best.

Does anyone know if the suggestions on the food tracking (for diabetics) is good? There seems to be a lot more carbs and fruits than I thought would be recommended?

Test strip problem. Use before expiration date. Date is up next May in 2021. Tested myself twice with what I thought was a good strip, and used another package with the same expiration date. it fortunately worked.

When counting fruit like apples and bananas.. do you use net carbs or just count them as is. What works for you?

Thanks in advance for your info!

I'm type II on Metformin only. 20+ years as a diabetic. Runs in my family, so genetic, but we all tend to love our Southern fried cooking too much, as well. I see my internal medicine doctor every six months. She's thrilled when my A1C is around 6. It's usually right on 6. Sometimes 5.8 or 9. Sometimes 6 or 6.1.

I regularly have morning highs. 120-140 and after a day of healthy eating without a bunch of carbs. Pre meal readings can be in the 70s and post meal readings are in line. It's those dang ol' morning numbers. If I occasionally have a better morning BS, sometimes it's following a day of very poor eating. Doesn't seem to track.

Anyone else deal with it? My doctor has suggested that I might need to have a midnight snack. Problem is, I'd have to set an alarm and risk waking DH. I'm out when the lights go off and don't wake up until the alarm starts sounding.

I am type 2 diabetic, on insulin and trulicity, and metformin.

How do I track my food? I put in cooked cabbage and come with everything under the sun except just cooked cabbage. I actually had cooke cabbage and carrots. Why is this so hard to figure that out??? C

Can some one please help me learn how to navigate tracking my food please? I was really hoping that when I came back things would be easier but this still is not a very user friendly place for me.

Thank you
