I had to be taken off the Metformin becaue the side effects were so bad. Now they are permanent anyway, plus had damage from radiation therapy for cancer. It is hard for me to do anything like shopping or going for a walk. So far I don't know of any med for diabetes that I can take because they all have side effects like diarrhea or heart disease. The first is already there (the permanent problem) and my family had a history of heart disease as well as diabetes. I am trying to control with diet and exercise, but that isn't working too well right now.

I hate the side effects of Metformin, but I haven't tried anything else. I have a virtual appointment with my doc this week. We'll see what she says. I know taking the meds stink.

My advice would be to tell your Dr. what's going on. There are many medication choices and you need one that works for you!

I will say it took me at least a month for my body to get used to Metformin (the only med I took).

Good luck.

I take Metformin twice a day, and Glipizide as needed. Glipizide is very powerful and brings your sugar down fast. I have 5 mg pills but will cut them in half because I do not like the side effects. I only take it once in the evening if my sugar is high. I am seeing my dr. in a couple of weeks and I believe he is going to take me off of glipizide which is fine with me.

I was on it and it didn't work. Also I won't take Metformin any more. See if you can get into a diabetes nutrition class as they do go over medications.

You don't like the side effects tell your doctor and he/she can change your medicine.

Currently, I take Metformin. I have side effects but they are manageable for the most part.

Recently, my Dr put me on Gliphizide. I've only been on it a week but..it's awful..the side effects are terrible.

Does anyone have experience with this med? Any advice, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
