I keep thinking that this slight upward trend is from poor eating, and it might be - but I have been diligent the past few days to eat well and the trend still is showing a slight uptick. Nothing to worry about of course, it is small. But also remembered that I tried to go off my RA meds over the holidays and I wonder now if inflammation is impacting me. I don't want to take the meds and have been trying to get by with some essential oils instead but the pain has been apparent and so I resumed the medication over the weekend. I need to continue eating well and see what happens.

I am using the Hacker's Diet Online ("How to lose weight and hair through stress and poor nutrition," and not to be confused with the myriad other Hacker's Diet web sites) web site to calculate my trending weight. I will use the reading for the Wednesday of each week as the official weight for this challenge, regardless the day I post or how many times or what days I weigh myself during the week.

Target weight: 126 (range: 122.22-129.78)

Week 1 : Wed 11/06/2019 - 125.8
Week 2 : Wed 11/13/2019 - 125.7
Week 3 : Wed 11/20/2019 - 125.8
Week 4 : Wed 11/27/2019 - 125.9
Week 5 : Wed 12/04/2019 - 125.9
Week 6 : Wed 12/11/2019 - 126.1
Week 7 : Wed 12/18/2019 - 126.3

Yes, indeed, Stephanie! Progress NOT Perfection.

It's been more a curiosity for me to see if my body fit the supposed 'norm' for healthy weight fluctuation. My body does not. However, that is not at all surprising either because I am NOT healthy.

So, given the depth of the health challenges, I think I've done an absolutely EXCELLENT job of maintaining! And, quite frankly, am surprised by how well I have done.

I like to say that I've never dieted because I've never followed a calorie restrictive program. The process for me has been about learning what does and does not support my physical health and well-being (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual).

Of course, I did learn that when I'm not present in the moment, it can be easy for me to either under eat or over eat. I do not seem to share many of the challenges that many experience with weight loss / weight maintenance. Sugar does not appeal to me. I am not an emotional eater. I am not a stress eater. In fact, I am more likely to under eat when experiencing stress. I abhor the feeling of being full. I do not snack. I do not eat after dinner. Allowing 12 hours between dinner and breakfast has, for the most part, been a common lifelong practice.

What led to the obesity for me was lack of awareness and ignorance. Given what I've learned and put into practice and remaining far more aware, the weight came off.

In fact, it was not even a desire to lose weight that launched my journey. It was an effort to reduce unbearable stress. So, BAPEARMAN & I began walking routinely. Who ever would have thought that a simple commitment to walk with a friend would have led to the journey I've lived over the past 6+ years. Incredible! I will, forever, be thankful to BAPEARMAN and that fateful request to join her in walking, after I'd posted the grades at semester's end in June 2013.

Today's actual 118.8
Trending 118.9

This has been an incredibly interesting year for me. Another year of marked health challenges and operating under severe activity restrictions. And, with the activity restriction came tighter weight fluctuation.

Following the pelvic fracture in 2015, I was under severe activity restriction for essentially 2 years. Although, those restrictions did begin to ease after 18 months. It was during 2016 that I saw the weight fluctuate 8.2 lbs. or 6.8%.

Until this year, that had been the tightest weight fluctuation I'd experienced since the sideways trend emerged in December 2014 which was 6 months after declaring goal reached at 144 lbs. in June 2014.

This year the weight fluctuated over a range of 7.4 lbs. or 6.4%. So, a bit better than 2016; but, still not the idealized 6.0% or +/- 3.0% that we use for the weight maintenance challenges. A statistic said to represent a range wide enough to account for routine fluid fluctuation and not impact health.

Today, marks 5 years since that sideways trend emerged. And, I have yet to succeed in meeting that +/- 3.0% range.

Does that make me a failure as a maintainer? I don't think so. Quite frankly, I consider myself an excellent maintainer.

Am I healthy? No.

Am I doing my best? Yes.

Onward!

Today's actual 119.6
Trending 118.9

Coincidentally, and not at all surprised, the increased weight is occurring with the increased fatigue. This is what occurred in Summer 2018. December's monthly average of the scale weights is right in there with the scale weight averages that occurred in Summer 2018, when I lost the exercise tolerance.

There may be other factors at play here as well: lack of running water for nearly 2 weeks, restaurant food versus home-cooked meals, etc.

Oh my, I didn't even realize I hadn't logged for this week - thanks for the head's up Jeanne! That is what being on vacation but still working does, during the holidays with company over and trying to still get workouts in, etc - just makes me confused! Haha but got it logged so all is well! I definitely splurged and indulged recently but the past few days I have been back on track with my focus on produce and some lean protein.

Week 6 : Wed 12/11/2019 - Tue 12/17/2019 -- 118.2 lbs. (Actual 118.2 lbs.)
Week 7 : Wed 12/18/2019 - Tue 12/24/2019 -- 118.1 lbs. (Actual 118.2 lbs.)
Week 8 : Wed 12/25/2019 - Tue 12/31/2019 -- 118.9 lbs. (Actual 120.2 lbs.)
Week 9 : Wed 01/01/2020 - Tue 01/07/2020 --

Residual swelling remains in the eye and facial lymph nodes. Pain is emerging in the joints which I sense is related to restaurant food. With no running water for over a week, we've eaten out more than we typically do. Despite making the best choices that I can, the food quality is outside my control.

At home we're eating organic, non-GMO, pastured, 100% grass-fed & grass-finished beef, wild fish, etc. This is not the type of fare available at our local restaurants. So, it appears that my body is beginning to feel the effects.

For decades (learned this lesson in my early 20s), I've been well aware that the conditions under which the food I consume (both plant & animal) is grown/reared impacts my body. Doing the best I can given the situation and feeling like I'm managing it well.

Back home!

Today's actual 121.5
Trending 120.71

Only .9 up from my pre-trip weight. Not too shabby after 4 days of earing too much trail mix (mostly raisins) and pistachio nuts in the evenings.
I ate wisely and moderately the rest of the time, and will resume tracking today.
