This last week I have been sitting around doing nothing. Last night I decided that it has to end so I went to the gym and it was closed. They were painting the walls. I went home and put on one of my exercise DVD's and worked out anyway. I got 16,500 steps yesterday. I don't think I can beat that but I have almost 8,000 for today! I'm giving it a good shot!!!

Thanks for continuing on in this fitness challenge. WTG

I have dropped the ball in the last couple of weeks because I have had pneumonia. I am still not feeling well. Had to stop gym and get lots of rest.

Hoping to be back on track in a week or so. This has been an unexpected, major bump for me in working on my health.

This is the first time I got the pneumonia shot too and come down with pneumonia anyway. Go figure. Life happens.

No, we don't mind if you just joined. Glad to have you!

Last night I did 20 minutes strength training. 10 minutes on the elliptical and 12 minutes rowing. I also did 1 20 minute walk and several 10-minute walks, for a total of 110 minutes of exercise.

Late on joining the August sizzling fitness challenge but thought you SPARKERS wouldn't mind if I dropped on in for August. In July I mostly got my movement in by working outside, so enjoyable.

Anyway, I belong to the YMCA gym in my area and love to exercise. My favorite piece of equipment is the ARC Trainer, which is similar to the Elliptical. Recently I've incorporated strength training into my weekly routine.

Aug 1 – 40 min. at gym - Strength training: Moderate resistance training with little to no rest (includes compound exercises, free weights, dumbbells, weight lifting)

Aug. 2 – Watering by Garden & lawn by hand, for 30 min., a lot of moving from front to back yards – for 30 min., (mileage unknown)

Aug. 3 – 1.26 miles, 37 min., 321 calories

Aug. 4 – 30 min. at gym – Strength training: Moderate resistance training with little to no rest (includes compound exercises, free weights, dumbbells, weight lifting) (miles unknown)

Sat., Aug 5 – 1.25 mi., 37 min., 330 cal.

Sun. Aug. 6 - .25 miles (heavy housekeeping)

Aug. 7 - .25 miles (gardening)

Aug. 8 – 1.37 mi., 40 min. 340 cal.

Aug. 9 - No workout

Aug. 10 – 1.00 mi., 31 min. 250 cal.

The last 2 days I have been going to the gym although I can't get the elliptical to work right. Sometimes it is at the right resistance for me and the incline is right. If it isn't I have been doing other things. Last night I worked out on the rowing machine. I haven't done that in a long time. Going back tonight to see what else I can do. The gym also has weights so I used them last night also. I have a pair at home but I need a heavier pair. I won't buy them unless I quit going to the gym.

I hate that they are putting everything on internet access. If you do not have a smart phone you cannot do it. Also they charge often for the service. I belong to Planet Fitness and it cost me $10 a month. They are open 7 days a week and have classes, free, to help out if needed. They have lots of easy to use equipment. It is a blessing to me.

I joined the community gym and went to work out this weekend. 2 pieces of the equipment use ifit. I was very disappointed because I couldn't figure out how to use the machines without creating an ifit account and paying them money. I was able to use the elliptical but I couldn't change the incline or the resistance. The screen would flip from ifit to another screen. The ifit screen would stay on for about 30 seconds and the other screen for about 3 seconds. I looked and tried to find help online but the only help I can find is to give them money and use blue tooth technology to do work outs. I thought that was really bad for the apple company. They should make things available for all users.

I haven't been doing as well as I would like. The other day I was trying on some clothes and took some pictures in the dressing room so I decided that before I eat anything unhealthy, I am going to look at those pictures. My Garmin Vivo fit is acting up so I am not keeping track of my steps but I am keeping track of how long I walk. I got in 13 minutes so far today! I am working on some accounting for my church and will not be able to get in a much exercise until Friday. I have been getting about 50 minutes but I would like to increase it to 75 once I have my work done.

Back on track and doing over 60 minutes of exercise daily. I have really felt out of control on eating and for the last 4 days I have been doing well.

Things come up from time to time for all of us. It is wonderful to see progress and determination even when stuff is happening. It is so important to keep our health in the foreground as much as possible.

I am doing well on my goal of reaching 150 lbs leg presses with 3 sets of 12 reps. I can do 140 lbs now at 3 sets of 8 reps. Not so good on taking some weight off. Staying the same. Got to do better in this area in August.

Love getting healthier with all of you.

I am sorry I haven't posted.
My DH, Bill, has been going through a lot with his eye and we have been back and forth and he is having yet another surgery on Monday.
I have been trying to get my steps in and haven't done too bad but the Yoga isn't as great as I wanted it to be.
BUT! there is August coming up! I plan to keep on trying.

I am doing well on my first goal of leg pressing 150 lbs, 3 sets of 12 reps. Yesterday I got to 130 lbs, 3 sets of 12 reps.

My second goal is still stuck in gear. Got to kick this one out of the current gear to get pass this goal.

Hope everyone else is doing okay with their goals. Let us know!

Tuesday my husband had a procedure and we had to drive 3 hours round trip and I spent the whole day at the hospital. I did manage to get in over 6,000 steps so I am happy about that. My husband is doing well and it's all a God thing! I was praising the Lord for his wonderful works.

Saturday I was so busy that I was walking here and there and was going all over. Later that evening I was doing my exercises and I got over 11,000 steps on my Garmin.

On Tuesday I had to drive my husband to a doctors appointment 1.5 hours away so I didn't get much exercise in. Yesterday I made up for it and walked almost 3 miles. I am going for a walk after lunch and I know it is hot but a 10-15 minute walk won't kill me. emoticon

I love Planet Fitness. No one bothers you and it is loaded with equipment.

Today I got up to 130 lbs on the leg press. I did 3 sets of 6. This is the first time I did the leg press at 130 lbs. Felt wicked good too!

Hope everyone else is as excited about this summer challenge as I am.

Great to have you all here! Love all the goals. I am working this week on getting through 3 sets of 12 reps on my leg press at 120 lbs easily. Going to gym today to accomplish that one. Looks like I will move on to 130 lbs next week. Not so good on weight loss. Staying the same, but just can't seem to break though. Will continue to work on this though.

We got this!

emoticon emoticon I added the 2nd one because I am always happy!

My name is Terri

Here are my goals

1. to start losing weight again - Hoping to lose 12 pounds
2. Exercise 6 days a week for at least 30 minutes
3. Get 10,000 steps or more 6 days a week (Sunday is my day to do nothing except Church)

I will check in 2 times a week - hoping for 3-5 times a week
To lose weight I am not going to eat chocolate every day. This is very hard for me as I crave it so much. I have to have it in my almond milk or I can't drink it and I think my lack of calcium is part of the problem for eating chocolate every day. So I will be adding 1 T. per 10 ounces of milk that I am drinking 10 ounces a day. I can't drink any other milk except skim and I can't stomach that either. Yogurt doesn't give me enough calcium. I can eat that and I love it! I would have to eat 4 servings a day to get the calcium I need so 2 yogurts and a 10-ounce glass of almond milk gives me the calcium I need on a daily basis.

I need lots of inspiration so you can friend me and post anything to my page any time you would like. I hope to inspire all of the members on this team too!

Goals for July nd August continue my efforts to regain strength, balance and mobility. I will lose the authorization for physical therapy through insurance so must go on alone but have a good foundation built in methods and equiptment and encouragements.
I will continue my accountability for steps, wt and progress with the KETO diet that is new to me. I think it better for me to only commit to checking in weekly though as our summer life is so very busy. God bless you each one as you make and work on and achieve your goals!

Goal/Goals:

My first goal for the end of August is to leg press 150 lbs for 3 sets of 12 reps. I am now at 120 lbs for 3 sets of 12. My plan is to move up 10 lbs approximately every 3 weeks.

My second goal for the end of August is to lose 15 lbs. My plan is to lose 1 to 2 lbs every week for July and August. This is tough because of all the cookouts in the summer time.

I will commit to check in here every Saturday for July and August and report my successes and failures.

Progress for July 8th:

Planning to move up to 130 lbs on my leg press Monday. Making good progress on this goal.

Not so good on my other goal. Got to eat better. Fortunately it is only the start of this challenge. Going to try to eat better this week.

Progress for July 15th:

Yeah I am moving forward on my leg press goal. I am now up to 130 lbs with 3 sets of 8. Doing a happy dance about this.

Still stuck on not losing any weight. This week I am really going to focus on what I eat and do a better job here.

Hot Sizzling Summer Fitness Challenge for July and August

Most of us will experience some hot sizzling summer days in July and August. So let’s ramp up our fitness goals a little for these months too. Let’s make a goal or two that may be just a little more than we think we can do. Maybe it is to lose 10 pounds in two months. Break this down into weekly goals and set up a plan on how you plan on doing this. This challenge is not so much getting to the ultimate goal, which will be amazing if you do, but more about committing to a regular routine for the next two months. Just don’t give up, keep your promise to yourself to keep moving forward through bad days and good days. This is a commitment challenge to yourself to try your best for 2 months and not to beat yourself up if you have some bad days. We can do this and make this summer really sizzle! Pick a day of the week to also commit to coming to our challenge team page at Keep Walking With Jesus and report your success and your failures. Commit to looking at what your other team mates are doing and encourage and cheer them on. Alice
